Jesse Jackson promotes voter registration drive
The Associated Press

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson came to Charlotte to join Democrats and the NAACP in urging voters to go to the polls in November.

Jackson criticized the Bush administration for its policy in Iraq and its economic priorities during the meeting Sunday at the United House of Prayer for All People.

"It's not about black and white," said Jackson during his speech. "It's about wrong and right. ... Race is a big issue, but class is a bigger one." ..

The upcoming election, Jackson said, could hinge on a margin of tens of thousands of ballots. There are more than 800,000 unregistered blacks who are eligible to vote in North and South Carolina, he said.
