Bush campaign holds rally in Va.; Dems sense weakness

By MATTHEW BARAKAT
Associated Press Writer

Published August 9, 2004

ANNANDALE, Va. -- President Bush stumped for votes and touted tax cuts Monday in northern Virginia, drawing more than 600 supporters and a few dozen Democratic protesters who said his presence in traditionally Republican Virginia is a sign his campaign is in trouble.
<snip>

Bush also said high taxes on the rich are a failed strategy because "the really rich people figure out how to dodge taxes anyway."

Asked about that comment, Jonathan Beeton, spokesman for Kerry's campaign in Virginia, said "George Bush can speak with authority about really rich people. ... That's his base, so I'm sure he knows what he's talking about. But that doesn't make it right."

10. the 'media' NEVER reported that one though...

"I remember -- I remember campaigning in Chicago, and one of the reporters said, would you ever deficit spend? I said only -- only in times of war, in times of economic insecurity as a result of a recession, or in times of national emergency. Never did I dream we'd have a trifecta. (Laughter.)"

15. Tax the honest people...
Honest people don't find ways to dodge their civic responsibilities, so punish them by taxing them more. Reward the rich for shirking theirs.

That's Bushenomics in a nutshell.

so why bother plugging loopholes, revamping the tax code -- let's just give up on the whole thing...

sounds like bush* is WHIMPING OUT on making the tax code, tax cut, tax relief FAIR for everyone

but it's not surprising - the haves and havemores, the elite and rich are his BASE and as for the rest of us - guess we can just go Cheney ourselves

failure and not try to plug loopholes or anything. :wtf: Well what about poor people who can't be stopped from committing robbery?? With that kind of logic I guess we should just give up and hand over the keys to banks, houses, cars etc. because theft is theft and if rich people can cheat on taxes why stop the poor from committing theft either.

28. I love the "Why bother" attuide
Like "Why bother" to CHANGE the laws to better balance taxes for all Americans.

I could go on from here with a litany of "Why bother's" like looking passed the cheery picked info that was handed to him to help go to war (even though its been proven that he and his Cabal where bent on going to Iraq weather 9/11 happened or not), or why he has sort of "forgotten" to get the man behind the attacks (Bin Laden could guest star on Leno and I'll bet he would STILL not catch him), his "Land of make-believe" when it comes to the fact that this country is loosing jobs by the boat load... and on and on and on... I guess you can say I have come to my "Why bother" conclusions in dealing with what this man is doing wrong in his leadership (if you want to call it that) so I throw up hands and say Why bother?

Oh wait now I remember...because I LOVE THIS DAMN COUNTRY!!!

If your not rich or not Jerry Farwell and are STILL voteing for this man after all he has done to destory this country and its people you need to ask yourself...Why am I lying to myself? The proof is everywhere and for some reason I can't see it?

But then again "Why bother" right?

This is such a classic confession of the underpinnings of a flawed philosophy that it could well be the line that characterizes the Bush administration -- not unlike 41's "No new taxes"

42. But it's their money - that they paid already in taxes
- no wait - they didn't pay any.

But it's only fair that those who pay the most in taxes get the most back

no wait - they didn't pay any in the first place so how can they get back what they never gave.

Wait, wait

I've got it somewhere here -

just need more time to find it

- no really

- I do ...

The really rich right doesn't have to dodge taxes because George and the republicans are rewriting the tax code so they don't have to pay at all. 39. The gall of this man
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 10:41 AM by MountainLaurel
He made this speech in front of an invitation-only audience in the gymnasium of a community college where probably 75 percent of the student population consists of immigrants and the very poor. They work their asses off trying to get an education in between multiple jobs, raising a family, or taking care of elderly relatives in order to survive this economy where everything is stacked against them, and this motherfucker has the absolute nerve to spew this shit? I've seen students here taking online exams while dealing with a cranky toddler because they can't afford daycare and he came here to discuss why this country shouldn't bother taxing the rich?

:puke:

No wonder the only people they let in were his "base."

but sometimes I feel sorry for all those people who work for and defend Dumbya day after day - they don't have a lot to work with and they have to contend with pearls of wisdom such as this. It can't be easy having to glorify a brain-dead (ex?)-coke snorter and AWOL draft-dodger. Heavy drinking or drug use could dull the pain I imagine - either that or a lobotomy..........

49. Michael Parenti....
AMERICA BESIEGED
... we are ... a nation besieged, not from without but from within, subverted not from below but from above. The moneyed class exercises a near monopoly influence over our political life, over the economy, the state, and the media.
... stop blaming the powerless and the poor and , in that good old American phrase, start " following the money." Let's keep our eye on who has too much of the real power in this country. That is the first and most important step toward lifting the siege and bringing democracy back to life.
