Powell Won't Attend Republican Convention
Associated Press

Secretary of State Colin Powell, a Republican centrist who is popular with moderate voters, intends to skip the GOP convention in New York that will nominate President Bush for a second term.

"The secretary does not plan to attend," State Department deputy spokesman Adam Ereli said Tuesday. He drew attention to Powell's remarks last week at a convention of minority journalists that he was obliged as secretary not to take part in "parochial debate." ..

Powell's differences with Bush and his senior advisers who are more conservative occasionally is an issue. He favors abortion rights and affirmative action.

3. Yup, its time to Cut'n Run while the getting is good.
His preso to the UN with the dog and phony show to justify the war did if for me.
Now he'll be taking French leave? Its a bit late isn't it ?
Its really kind of pathetic. He might have stood for something at one time.
I think trying to compromise away his principles and be a good foot soldier for the Chimp was what did it. All they did was use him.

4. Wife putting pressure on Powell....
It must be hurtful to be the wife and mother of two people of the same family who are so hated by the citizens; Colin and little Michael. Mrs. Powell protested when the GOP wanted her husband to run for president, and he promised her that he would only serve one term with the bush criminal family. Mrs. Powell suffers from extreme depression and other mental problems, and being in the public eye would aggrevate her conditions. That's why she's rarely seen in public. Powell good soldier for bush, bad soldier for his family.

5. Remember My Lai
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 11:02 AM by klook
In 1968, Maj. Colin Powell was charged with investigating a soldier's report of a massacre at My Lai. The soldier, who'd been there, was tormented by his memories. Powell's report concluded that 128 Viet Cong had been killed, 13 suspects were detained, and there had been only isolated incidents of abuse. He added, "In direct refutation of this portrayal is the fact that relations between American soldiers and the Vietnamese people are excellent."

The truth? As revealed by New Yorker journalist Seymour Hersh, "Between 172 and 347 people were systematically executed by American soldiers. All of the victims were unarmed elderly, women and children (some little babies)." - American Politics Journal

So you see, Colin Powell's attempts to mislead the United Nations and the world about Iraq are not a new pattern of behavior. He's been a liar and a shill for bad military and government policy for a long time. It's really a disappointment to realize this, because I wanted to believe in Powell as a moderate who got forced into being a spokesliar for the Bush administration. Turns out he's just another dishonest political hack.

"The trucks and train cars are easily moved and are designed to evade detection by inspectors. In a matter of months, they can produce a quantity of biological poison equal to the entire amount that Iraq claimed to have produced in the years prior to the Gulf War."
