State Sen. Tommy Robertson on Monday was found guilty of driving under the influence in Lafayette County Justice Court.
Robertson, R-Moss Point, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, was arrested Sept. 28 in the parking lot outside the university's Alumni House hotel following the Ole Miss-Texas Tech football game.
Robertson, 48, an Ole Miss Law School graduate, must pay a $623.50 fine and attend alcohol and drug education classes.
The DUI conviction is not Robertson's first. In 1997, he pleaded guilty to DUI in Biloxi. He said then that he had been in Biloxi watching football with friends and was stopped on his way home to Moss Point.
Officers testified Monday that Robertson's eyes were red and dilated, his speech was slurred, and that he had difficulty walking. He also tested positive for alcohol on a portable breath test. "I have no doubt Mr. Robertson was too intoxicated to be operating a motor vehicle," arresting officer Anthony Wood testified.
In his defense, Robertson said he had one shot of Crown Royal and Coca-Cola with some friends after the game and then drank half of another in his truck, but he said he felt fine.
