Colorado Brewing Magnate to Be Senate Candidate (Coors R)
DENVER (Reuters)

Republican voters on Tuesday chose brewing magnate Peter Coors while Democrats selected state Attorney General Ken Salazar to run in November for the U.S. Senate seat from Colorado, a state that could be crucial in deciding which party controls the legislative chamber. ..

Salazar, the first Hispanic to be elected to statewide office in Colorado, was congratulated by U.S. Sen. Jon Corzine (news, bio, voting record), chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

Corzine, from New Jersey, gave a hint of what the Colorado campaign will look like when he said in a statement that Salazar "was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth" -- a jab at the long-time wealth of the Coors brewing family.

Coors, chairman of the Golden, Colorado-based Adolph Coors Co., who is running for his first political office, joked that the first person he wanted to thank was the current U.S. senator from Colorado Ben Nighthorse Campbell for deciding not to run. Campbell supported Coors.

The Senate race has been hotly contested since the Republican Campbell, the only American Indian in the U.S. Congress, surprised many in March when he said he would not run again. His decision opened up the Colorado seat that had been considered a safe hold for the Republicans. ..

2. I can't imagine a Canadian drinking coors!
We have some lovely micro brews here in Oregon, but I'm not comparing them to your beer. Wish I had time to come try some of yours this winter. Maybe a trip to Whistler is in order!

10. Anheiser Busch family worshipped Hitler.
I think we are beginning to see that with Prescott Bush and the Nazis at Auschwitz and many ore corporate magnates that the USA should have had a Nazi scare, not a Red Scare after WWII. We went after our allies and quietly allowed Nazis to infiltrate our government and industry.

I believe George Washington et alia would have fought against those who worshipped the Nazis. How times have changed.

9. this explains the Larry Walker trade I think.
If Coors owns the Rockies and their owner is Pro-Bush so too is the Cardinals owner De Witt who brought Bush to open the season at Busch Stadium to jinx the Cardinals for the first six weeks of this season.

Walker was acquired by the Bush worshiping Cardinal owner for very little in return...

Maybe De Witt wants Bush to appear in October at his stadium in the battleground state of Missouri.

of course if Coors does not own the Rockies, disregard the above.

11. Coors does not own the Rockies.
They paid big bucks to have our taxpayer financed stadium name after them. More corporate welfare. Jerry McMorris (trucking) and Charlie Monfort (beef) owned the Rockies last I knew.

7. Coors ads = family values?
The ads are basically soft porn: Lots of tits and ass and groping - the clear message is: candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker.

8. Don't foget!-The Coorses are part of the "Four Sisters"
http://hnn.us/articles/printfriendly/1244.html

The "Four Sisters"

In 1973, in response to the Powell memo, Joseph Coors and Christian-right leader Paul Weyrich founded the Heritage Foundation. Coors told Lee Edwards, historian of the Heritage Foundation, that the Powell memo persuaded him that American business was "ignoring a crisis." In response, Coors decided to help provide the seed funding for the creation of what was to become the Heritage Foundation, giving $250,000.(1)

Subsequently, the Olin Foundation, under the direction of its president, former Treasury Secretary William Simon (author of the influential 1979 book A Time for Truth), began funding similar organizations in concert with "the Four Sisters"--Richard Mellon Scaife's various foundations, the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, the Olin Foundation and the Smith Richardson Foundation--along with Coors's foundations, foundations associated with the Koch oil family, and a group of large corporations. (In this article, I will refer to this group of funders as the "Four Sisters Funding Group" or FSFG.)

Following Powell's long-term plan to "build a movement," FSFG has funded and built a network of think tanks, advocacy organizations, and expanded into media, lobbying, and other areas. The work was slow but effective. As Christopher DeMuth, president of the American Enterprise Institute, told a group of conservative business people, "things take time. It takes at least 10 years for a radical new idea to emerge from obscurity."

Creating "Conventional Wisdom"

The right-wing movement's messages are orchestrated and amplified to sound like a mass "movement" consisting of many "voices." Using "messaging"--communication techniques from the fields of marketing, public relations, and corporate image-management--the movement appeals to people's deeper feelings and values. Messages are repeated until they become "conventional wisdom." Examples include lines like "Social Security is going broke" and "public schools are failing." Both statements are questionable, yet both have been firmly embedded in the "public mind" by purposeful repetition through multiple channels. This orchestration has been referred to as a "Mighty Wurlitzer, " a CIA term that refers to propaganda that is repeated over and over again in numerous places until the public believes what it's hearing must be true.

14. A Coors 'lite,' Peter is still all about the pitch (Denver Post)
By Diane Carman

<snip>
His father, Joseph Coors, was an activist, bankrolling the Heritage Foundation, the John Birch Society, Strom Thurmond and the Iran-Contra scandal. Presidents sought his counsel.
<snip>

The elder Coors opposed co-ed dorms and wanted to make faculty members sign a loyalty oath, promising not to criticize the government at the height of the Vietnam War.
<snip>

Four years ago, the brewery negotiated a deal that would allow it to create a small wetlands and pay $50,000 to restock area lakes after the company dumped untreated brewery waste and 77,000 gallons of beer into Clear Creek, killing thousands of fish. The deal was in lieu of the $1.75 million penalty sought by the state Division of Wildlife.

13. This is LBN?
That's been common knowledge in Colorado.

But the good news is, Salazar is outpolling Coors 2-1. (something like 60-30)

Check the Colorado forum for more info.
