Protesters set fire to Allawi's party offices
http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200408/s1174444.htm

Thousands of Iraqis in the southern city of Nassiriya calling for the fall of Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, have set fire to the local office of his political party.

The demonstrators are enraged by military action against Shiite rebels in the sacred city of Najaf.

They have screamed: "Down, down Allawi" and "Allawi you coward, you American agent".

----------

The storm is brewing.

4. No kidding. This could be the opening of the end game.
Not as a move, but as the curtain opens on wider and more profound unrest, bringing us to the open scene where U.S. tries to kill or capture al'Sadr. Act two: Middle East explodes. Third and final act: ?????

14. You think you'll see this in AMERICA?
Maybe on page A-22 in a week or so. In small print. Under a Roto-Rooter ad.

The U.S. Pravda Press isn't going to offend their imperial masters by telling the truth about their little colonial adventure. They didn't before the invasion, why would they start now?

7. I'm sure the Kurds are getting ready to make their move as well
They were sold out by the Americans and they're pissed as well. They also have the most powerful militia by far.

11. Any move by the Kurds would trigger an immediate reaction by Turkey
The Turkish army needs only a pretext in order to invade the North of Iraq.

I think the Kurds (in Iraq) are relatively happy with their situation, the economy seems to be much better than in the rest of the country. Having America as an ally is also an asset in that volatile region.

The only trouble could arise from infighting between the Kurdish factions.

9. the R Fisk piece was a warning
Aug. 1, 2004

"...Much of Iraq has fallen outside the control of America's puppet government in Baghdad but we are not told. Hundreds of attacks are made against US troops every month. But unless an American dies, we are not told. This month's death toll of Iraqis in Baghdad alone has now reached 700 - the worst month since the invasion ended. But we are not told...." 10. This is not good news.
At the rate it's going, I fear that there won't be an Iraq for a President Kerry to put back together in January.

17. I want to see the faces of all the PNACers when that happens.

Just to think that EVERYTHING they have done has turned to shit, as well as their stooge turned into a crispy critter, well that just brings a smile to my face and a spring to my step. Maybe there really is a just god somewhere in the multiverse.
