ClientLogic Corp. in Oak Ridge plans to layoff 230 workers
http://www.wate.com/Global/story.asp?S=2160494

NASHVILLE (AP) -- Fulfillment company ClientLogic is laying off 230 workers in Oak Ridge.

A memo by the state Labor Department shows the layoffs are expected to begin September 16th. The state was notified of the company's plan in July.

Officials of the Nashville-based company say the loss of two clients spurred the layoffs. They declined to identify the clients lost.

The Oak Ridge facility is one of more than three dozen call centers the company operates in 12 countries. Its corporate clients have included Sony, Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard.

1. Dang,
That's my hometown. My bro-in-law has been out of work for almost a year now and his wife (my sister) has been disabled for the last 15 years and is unable to work. She was a chemist at the bomb plant but her and most of her crew came down with a spate of terrible diseases. To say the least her family loves Liberty and will vote for JFK this year.
On the other hand, go Wildcats!

2. My stepfather worked there for decades
and has had this weird disease that has been diagnosed as MS, but I am skeptical of the diagnosis. It started in his feet and worked its way up until he has been quadriplegic for over a decade. However, his speech and swallowing are completely intact. He designed radiation shields or something (apparently didn't shield well enough). Do you know of anyone else from the labs who have had anything like this?

Which lab is doing the laying off?

5. ClientLogic is a private company that provides technical call centers
to clients who contract for their services. Kind of an outsourced "help-desk" set of services for PC's and communications problems (like dial-up or DSL access to an ISP). People take incoming calls and try to troubleshoot the problem and get the customer running again.

They used to have contracts with companies like BellSouth but don't know who their client list is now.

They just happen to be located in Oak Ridge. Their jobs basically paid from $9-11 an hour and they ran 7/24 so had lots of young people (lots of University of Tennessee students).

They just happen to be located in/near the City of Oak Ridge. They have nothing to do with the Federal government or the U.S. facilities in Oak Ridge.
