Bush gets soverized on the Web
The Register

One of our favorite George Bush blunders has found a home on the Web courtesy of Democracy Now.

The web site has captured audio and video feeds of Bush answering questions in front of a Unity conference held last weekend. The gaffe of note took place when Bush was asked about his views on the tribal sovereignty of Native Americans. Bush's answer to the question resulted in an eruption of laughter from the crowd. The giggles seem to elicit a brief grimace from Bush, but don't stop him from continuing on and swallowing his foot whole.

Reporter Mark Trahant asks Bush, "Mr. President you have been a governor and a president, so you have unique experience looking at (tribal sovereignty) from two directions. What do you think tribal sovereignty means in the 21st century?" Here Bush gets very literal.
"Yeah. Uh, tribal sovereignty means that - it's sovereign. You are a . . . you have been given sovereignty, and you are viewed as a sovereign entity."

The laughter begins. "And, therefore, the relationship between the federal government and the tribes is one between sovereign entities."

In a question and answer session after the president's speech, Jesse Jackson tried to shed more light on the discussion.

"The president explained (tribal sovereignty), you just didn't understand. Sovereignty is sovereignty. You understand? It's like in sovereignenity. If you are on a reservation, you have been soverized."

1. The only way you can vote for Bush
is if you never see/hear this "sovereignity" exchange OR see him sit looking vacant for 7 minutes while our country was under attack. Or any of the other hundreds of instances of incompetence. To vote for Bush means you live in a bubble with hate-radio access only.

But you have to be realistic as much as I hate that, more than half the people in this country will never hear/or read about him saying all these stupid things nor will they see the movie as I did twice. There is no way anyone can see and hear these things and not be ashamed that he is the leader of our country. And they indeed get their "facts" from the likes of Limbaugh, Boritz, Hannity and O'Reilly, et al on Fox and the misleading ads on TV--that they absorb while watching some ridiculous sitcom or reality show. They are also the ones who never watch C-Span, PBS, or read newspapers, news magazines, or do research on the internet. They are ostriches whose fate is going to be deadly, I believe, if Bush is in office another 4 years. I sincerely don't think we can survive without another world war with this idiotic human being in office. And we all know what the outcome of another world war could mean for our country.

8. You're right.
I work for a transcription department in a newswire, and I get to hear the the Bush remarks -- stumbles, bobbles, mispronunciations and all -- before they are cleaned up for public consumption. Granted, some people may get glimpses of the smirking delivery, the bullying, the inability to handle off-the-cuff questions, but most will never see that or read about it.

Bush can only manage simple declarative sentences, and he simply cannot stray from script. Look at a transcript and you'll see what I mean. The sovereignty remark is just one example of that: he can only keep repeating the same thing over and over. Briefers do this, too, but Bush is even more helpless and hapless than that.

9. Every day
is another opportunity to be reminded that people believe only what they want to believe. Or in the case of * supporters, what Karl Rove wants them to believe.

It will be real interesting to see * and Pickles on LKL Thursday night. No way in hell they will take questions, but oh, how I wish they would.

11. Does this also mean that we are going to "democratize" the
sovereign Native American tribes when we are done in the middle east??

I don't know if I would want to deal with the US on a sovereign to sovereign basis any longer with the village idiot in charge.
