Ridge: Nothing to link videotaper to terrorists

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- No evidence has been found so far that a Pakistani man arrested after videotaping office buildings in Charlotte, North Carolina, is connected to terrorist groups, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said Wednesday.

"There is nothing we know now today, as we speak, that he is connected in any way to potential terrorist activities," Ridge said.

"There is nothing we know now today that suggest the tapes are casings of particular communities. ... The investigation is ongoing."

Hmm. There's a shocker. I saw this snip of a briefing and boy, did he stress "now today" BOTH times he said it. He's holding on to the power of fear with both hands. Of course, this time he didn't point out that "it's because of Bush's strong leadership in the war on terror that we don't know anything *noooowwww* *todaaaay*"

2. NPR radio reported today

that this guy is already known to officials in NYC who say he's just an avid video-taker and has no terrorism ties that they're aware of.

I'm paranoid now. I don't want to use my digital camera or video camera anywhere. My husband and I were going to go to DC for sight-seeing this summer but we canned the trip because there's no way I'd be filming anything there. God forbid, I'd be on the I-spy-a-bad-guy list. :scared:

My tall, pale, 14 year old daughter was asked to remove her shoes today at the airport. I felt very weird (oddly surprised, a little resentful?) watching that from across the concourse and can only imagine how I might might have felt had she had darker skin.
