Bush backs banks' appeal of state's financial privacy law

DON THOMPSON, Associated Press Writer
Wednesday, August 11, 2004

(08-11) 17:38 PDT SACRAMENTO (AP) --

The Bush administration stepped into a lawsuit challenging California's landmark financial privacy law Wednesday, urging a federal judge to side with banks that want to overturn restrictions on how they can share customer information.

The new state law requires financial institutions to get permission from customers before giving nonaffiliated companies customers' financial information such as their bank balance or spending habits.

Three trade associations sued last month over a provision that lets customers also block the sale of financial information to affiliated companies that are not in the same line of business, such as a bank that wants to share with a sister insurance company owned by the same parent corporation.

A federal judge in Sacramento upheld the law last month, but the American Bankers Association, the Financial Services Roundtable and the Consumer Bankers Association are appealing.

1. bush* needs to learn that he has no business sticking he grubby nose
in every aspect of OUR business, of OUR lives. Not his, ours!

I swear I sit here at nights thinking about all the ways that he's corrupted this country, how he's destroyed our way of life, how he's stolen our right to a reasonable expectation of privace, how he's put our kids and grandkid and great-grandkids into debt and the beneficiaries of his money grubbing evil policies will NEVER be the one to pay it back, how he's lied about every damn thing that he's ever done in his life. And I swear, to the peril of my immortal soul, that I hope when the day of reckoning comes, he suffers and he suffers greatly. I hope that for every person he's hurt, for every innocent soul that has had their life cut short because of his greed and ignorance, for the generations unborn that will find their life less than what they have a right to expect it to be because of him, that he spend an eternity paying for his sins and corruption.

Do I believe that he's the mastermind behind all this? Hell no, I've heard the man try to string a few words together and not be able to come up with a coherent sentence. But he's truly evil because he is willing to front for the people who are really behind all the horrible things that are happening right now. He feels special, superior, entitled. And that in itself shows how really unworthy a human being he is.
