Bush's Attack Dog Tries Once Again to Divert Attention from Failed Policie
U.S. Newswire

.. Cheney's Most Recent Disingenuous Attack. "Vice President Dick Cheney is criticizing John Kerry's call for a 'more sensitive' war on terror, saying it won't impress the Sept. 11 terrorists or the Islamic militants who have beheaded U.S. citizens. 'America has been in too many wars for any of our wishes, but not a one of them was won by being sensitive,' Cheney said in remarks prepared for delivery Thursday." (AP, 8/12/04)

Cheney Attacks Bush's Own Words. Bush: "We help fulfill that promise not by lecturing the world, but by leading it. Precisely because America is powerful, we must be sensitive about expressing our power and influence. Our goal is to patiently build the momentum of freedom, not create resentment for America itself. We pursue our goals, we will listen to others. We want strong friends to join us, not weak neighbors to dominate. In all our dealings with other nations, we will display the modesty of true confidence and strength." (Bush Remarks at USS Regan Ceremony, 3/4/01)

Bush: "Now, in terms of the balance between running down intelligence and bringing people to justice obviously is -- we need to be very sensitive on that." ..

1. Forgetting the Cold War there Dick?
Why that was *gasp* nuanced and involved both aggressive and non-aggressive measures.

4. That last"sensitive" quote made by Dubya at Unity Conference last week!
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/08/2004080...

Now in terms of the balance between running down intelligence and bringing people to justice obviously is -- we need to be very sensitive on that. Lackawanna, for example, was a -- there was a cell there. And it created a lot of nervousness in the community, because the FBI skillfully ferreted out intelligence that indicated that these people were in communication with terrorist networks. And I thought they handled the case very well, but at the time there was a lot of nervousness. People said, well, I may be next -- but they weren't next, because it was just a focused, targeted investigation. And, by the way, some were then incarcerated and told their stories, and it turned out the intelligence was accurate intelligence.

6. It is just part of the Kerry is a French speaking liberal smear
They want voters to think Bush is the manly rambo-esque he-man who can save us all from the terrorists and Kerry is the sensitve French speaking wimp.

9. Agreed that Cheney is twisting Kerry's words, but...
...this is at least the second time in the past week that Kerry has allowed some part of his campaign speeches to contain sound-bites that only Karl Rove would love. The first one was when he gave a confusing explanation about voting for the Iraq war even if he knew that there were no WMD; what the heck is he trying to say?

It's Kerry's responsibility as a candidate on the campaign trail to make his message unambiguous to his audience. This is not the time for him start toying around with phrases and terminology that the Bush smear team can easily dissect and exploit.
