Young Marines frustrated by lack of progress
The Boston Globe

Four months into their tour of duty at one of the most dangerous American bases in Iraq, young Marines say the slow pace of progress is shaking their faith in their mission. ..

I don't think any of us even care what happens to this country," Goward said, as half a dozen Marines, all stationed in Ramadi, the capital of restive Anbar Province, nodded in agreement. "I'm here to make sure these guys get home safely. And they're here to make sure I do." ..

From Goward's point of view, the United States has fulfilled its goals in Iraq: toppling Saddam Hussein, capturing him, and handing off formal sovereignty to Iraqis. "What's left?" he said.

His squad belongs to Golf Company, part of the Second Battalion, Fourth Marine Regiment, which occupies three bases in downtown Ramadi and has faced some of largest insurgent attacks in the country. ...

1. too bad there aren't any Vietnam vets to explain this to them
"It's just like Vietnam. It is being run by politicians and not the military. We will not win this insurgency. Its an attempt to divert disaster prior to the elections. Disaster is inevitable at some point, probably after the election. You are canon fodder. Once you are discharged, sick or maimed, you will be shuffled off to a beauracracy to apply for disability and medical care, which you will spend all of your time trying to get."

2. Blast away, but I want to say this.

Al qaeda attacked the US because we arm and support Israel. Our troops are as hated by Islahm now as much as the Israelis are. Let the Israeli troops replace our troops now. Are there any Israelis fighting in Iraq. It's time to pay the fiddler or move back to Florida and pay US taxes.

and unfortunately what you say is SO TRUE.

This is the reason for such agnst against America, it is our tacit support of Israel and their brutal military occupation of Palestine (Gaza/West Bank).

They cannot help but be angry with us when it is our American made aircraft, bombs, missiles, firearms and munitions that are killing their people and they recognize the fact that we supply Israel with these weapons, we support their policies and we turn a blind eye to their actions.

3. Perhaps The Saddest Part Of war
This is perhaps the saddest part of war, next to the actual loss of life - how it affects the minds of our military personnel. I support our troops - it's definitely not their fault they we have a Commander In Chief who is more worried about making money with his business friends than he is with his own country's Armed Forces. I say, "Support Our Troops - Bring Them HOME!!!"

7. They told us that "We'll be home in 6 months"
That was in 1965. When I served in I corps in '67-'68, we Marines said pretty much the same thing: "Screw this country, just stay alive long enough to get back home".

9. Thank You Marine
I would have done the same but thank you for serving your country. You did what you were told just as Marines are doing today. It breaks my heart.

15. Sad, but true..
they're not soldiers. They're low paid security guards for the neocons. They guard the oil fields and keep the peace while the neocons turn the spigots, and pocket the money.
