Hundreds protest at site of Bush LV speech
LAS VEGAS SUN

Hundreds of protesters lined the street outside the carpenters union facility in Las Vegas where President Bush held a campaign event.

The AFL-CIO -- the umbrella organization for most labor unions in Nevada, but not the carpenters union -- organized the protest. ..

Other protesters -- including one in a Hazmat suit -- spoke against bringing nuclear waste to Yucca Mountain.

Most shouted or displayed anti-Bush slogans.

One sign read, "Bush -- Hands off overtime." Some protesters shouted, "No more Bush." Others booed.

Some union members attacked the carpenters union local for hosting Bush. ..

1. UH OH, somebody must have screwed up!
I thought his minions guarded him from having to see any of these terrible people. Don't tell me there's still some freedom and democracy left!

5. Fucking McCarron
He is running this union into the freaking ground. He claimed the union would not endorse anyone, which is a fucking mistake already. And now this. Ohhh, I'll be so glad when McCarron is gone. He is a fucking nightmare.

7. Continuing rant to myself...
He's doing this to get protection from the Labor Department after the international took over the locals. A non-endorsement of Kerry, from a fucking labor union, is as good as an endorsement for Bush. I can't tell whose tongue is up whose ass. It might be both. Jayzus H.

8. McCarron's been pretty friendly with the Bush White House
He's Bush's fig leaf on the question of unions. All of us know that Bush is virulently anti-union, just as he is petrified of dealing directly with organizations like the Congressional Black Caucus or the NAACP, but he can appear before the carpenters/joiners a time or two a year and claim to be on their side on jobs. :puke:

11. Bush's labor dept.
...is suspending the law when it comes to the carpenters' int'l and how it took over local control. What McCarron is doing is illegal, and Bush is getting the "Labor" Dept. to look the other way.

Wood butchers, heh.

I'm thinking of becoming a sparky, myself.

13. Thanks for the welcome, Ernesto!
And the more I think about this the madder I get. This is the exact shit that the other side accuses unions of in the first place -- so why do we freaking do it? YARGH!

15. This is the thing that I never get.....
How could ANY union back a Republican - how can any person of color back a Republican? How can anyone who makes less than a few hundred grand a year back a Republican? It is like watching a woman who has been abused repeatedly say that it isn't her husband's fault he almost killed her, it's hers for making him mad.

Watched gangs of New York the other night in which they quote Boss Tweed as saying you can always hire one half of the poor to kill the other half. I got a cold chill when I heard that quote and I immediately thought of situations like this.

10. More people showed up to protest than to hear * speak!
While the carpenters are sell-outs, the rest of the Vegas unions were present, and protesting. 1,500 protestors, and only 1,000 attending!
