Kerry Campaign Response to Bush Appearance on Larry King
U.S. Newswire

"The President spent an hour on TV and didn't talk about jobs or his plans to get the economy going. It's the latest proof that this President is completely out of touch with the priorities of this country, and has no plan for turn things around. It's time that we had a President like John Kerry who has a plan to make America stronger at home and respected in the world."

It's interesting (or shamefull) that the Kerry camp uses US Newswire. I have been going there once in a while for a few years and it usually has releases the major media doesn't pick up. There is always a thing or two of interest but rarely anything the average person cares about. IMO, local major media should be obligated to cover the campaigns in a reasonable matter. Perhaps the same people selling campaign advertising own the news outlets. That is just wrong. The FCC should require them to cover any event that is vital to community interests.

1. idea?
I've gone to Newswire a few times, too. Do you think it would do any good to print out a few releases and send them to local news outlets?

2. And furthermore....
He didn't take any calls! No calls! Have you ever seen a Larry King show where no callers were permitted?

He gave foggy answers to even foggier questions and Laura sat by grinning her approval. It was downright scary and I'm afraid that most viewers lapped it up with a spoon.

3. False Advertising!
Some of the promos said that he would be taking calls, too. I thought he was nervous and about as inarticulate as usual. Twice, I saw Laura look at him with that "I wish he wouldn't lie like that on national television," look. Once when he said they visited with the families who had lost loved ones in Iraq, and then when he talked about going into Iraq. He couldn't have handled calls with any substance anyway. Someone might have asked him what "sovreinty" means!

4. The only way he would have been able to take calls
is if Cheney had been sitting beside him instead of Laura. }(

Did Laura just say that she had no moral opposition to stem cell research?!?!?!?! Before George shut her up, I see.

And he will not answer yes or no to an effing thing.

And the lie about the NIH budget.

OY VAY!!!!

9. FYI--US Newswire
It's just a raw press release. Goes out all over the place. That's just where you happen to be seeing it, in its raw form, contact numbers and everything.

Most of this is usually shielded from your view, Mr/Ms. News Consumer.

The Kerry camp pays a small fee to be put out on different press release services. Kerry et al. will also distribute directly to media outlets all over the place, talk to people, and so on. This is just a way to make sure your press release gets the most eyeballs. Really, it's not supposed to be news until some media outlet picks it up as the basis (idea) of a story--in the best of worlds, that means verifying the story and adding some reporting.

I found, when I was in the biz and dabbled in these dark arts, that many of your wire distributed press releases would be reported verbatim as 'news' so long as you occasionally hold a little party which includes free cheese. The media loves the free cheese and will remember you for it--it's much like the unconditional love of a small puppy. I hope Kerry knows that. You can ramp it up, cheese and booze.

For so many years I've been trying to understand. But the answer was right in front of me all along:

Cheese !

12. Camembert, Gloucester, a nice Brie perhaps...
BBC/Python was on to this early:

Interviewer: And when did you first notice these... shall we say... tendencies?

Man: Well... I was about seventeen and some mates and me went to a party, and, er... we had quite a lot to drink... and then some of the fellows there ... started handing ... cheese around ... and well just out of curiosity I tried a bit ... and well that was that.

Interviewer: And what else did these fellows do?

Man: Well some of them started dressing up as mice a bit ... and then when they'd got the costumes on they started ... squeaking.

Interviewer: Yes. And was that all?

Man: That was all.

Interviewer: And what was your reaction to this?

Man: Well I was shocked. But, er... gradually I came to feel that I was more at ease ... with other mice.

11. Well said.
I have no doubt that KerryCamp knows where to put these and how to distribute. And you're absolutely 100% right about the free cheese. I hope they already have places booked during the RNC in NY to entertain the media. Check. Change that....I'm SURE they already have places booked with invitations and assignments to make personal calls inviting the media to attend...

Well, it always worked for me when I needed to pull off that sort of thing with the media. :)
