I know thiss is very tinfoil hat, but I often wonder if the shadowy part of the CIA may have been involved in order to 1. gauge the reaction of the populace after both these events, and 2. use the Madrid outcome as a "we can't give in to Al Quadi like the Spanish did."

With such odd events happening so close to these elections, it seems that the odds would be quite low that some force was not behind this. After all, there are numerous elections worldwide each year that go off fairly uneventful(barring the Selection of 2000, of course.)

George Will was on c-span's Washington Journal this morning. Brian read 2 different articles from two different papers with this story. Now, neither of the guys actually said this is BS, but both certainly questioned it, and why the WH would put this stuff out now.

The closest Will came was to say "if something happened, they'd be criticized for for not saying anything".

It sounds to me like the WH is just trying to keep up the fear factor assuming it will help them in the election.
