Paroled molester accused of having sex with dozens of girls

A paroled sexual predator is back behind bars today, after parole officers found diaries and photographs detailing sexual exploits with Valley girls in his motel room, authorities said.

Charlton Glenn Ward, 33, of Phoenix was booked into Madison Street Jail late Wednesday on six counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a felony.

Phoenix police spokesman Detective Tony Morales said Ward admitted to molesting dozens of victims since he gained freedom in January 2003, but police believe many more - potentially more than 100 - may surface over the course of the investigation.

Officers uncovered pictures of what appeared to be Ward having sex with girls as young as 1 year old and as old as 13. They also found children's underwear and child pornography Ward said he downloaded from a public-access computer at Phoenix Public Library.

1. I don't think we accomplish much dwelling on such a sensational case

It plays right into the hands of right-wing propaganda.

Of course, we need to have law enforcement geared to more effectively curb such disgusting incidents, but this is a essentially a tragic local case. Their may be a system in Phoenix or Arizona that needs to be fixed. But I think blowing it up into something national takes us in the wrong direction.

4. Parole futile

Child molesters are basically sociopaths. They believe it is their right to ignore the law and thousands of years of strict customs because they're so special. The smarter ones will quote & distort prominent historical figures, which is not a justification, and come up with all sorts of crap. When identified, they need to go to jail and stay there. This isn't right vs. left (although the child molesters' friend, the False Memory Foundation, was pushed very, very hard by the corporate media).

Don't get me wrong, anybody who is diddling 10 year olds is a blight on society... but convicted does not always mean guilty, not everybody who is "guilty" is actually a child molestor, and of the ones who ARE guilty and ARE molestors, not ALL of them are going to do it again.

I don't know the answer, but keeping people in prison because they MIGHT do something bad isnt' it.

This would be a crime, as our consent law states that a person between the age of 13 and 15 cannot engage in sexual activity with anyone more than two years older than themselves.

This relationship is legal in Connecticut.

The recidivism rate for pedophiles is horrible. I honestly do no think there is a "cure" for this. My grandfather raped his stepdaughter when she was 12, when I was 9 he molested me, by then he was well into his 60's and my Mom thought he was "harmless" at that age. I shudder when I think of how many other victims he had that never came forward.

As long as a pedophile has sexual urges, he will have them toward children - whether he is 20 or 90.
