U.S. Soldier Killed in Najaf Offensive
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040813/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq&cid=540&ncid=716

NAJAF, Iraq - A U.S. soldier was killed during fighting in Najaf, the military said Friday. The soldier, from a special forces unit, was killed during a raid on Thursday on a school in the holy city of Najaf, where militia loyal to radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr have been fighting U.S. and Iraqi forces for over a week.

Troops raided the school, a nearby maternity hospital, and al-Sadr's house in efforts to rout out the militia, dropping a 500-pound bomb on one of the buildings, the military said.

2. Sad
but just one with such fierce fighting!
I'm sorry but I guess I'm jaded by Vietnam and body counts ...
I just get the feeling we are not being told anything.

3. You don't need to be sorry. When the numbers are accurately counted
we are over 1,000 dead right now. I bet anything, you could get over a thousand US families to report at least one dead family member in Iraq.
And, of course, we have no regard for the tens of thousands of Iraqis that we have killed.
