Governor is torn between demands of state and GOP
Schwarzenegger is still defining his role in Bush campaign; calls pal Kerry 'terrific'

Carla Marinucci, John Wildermuth, Chronicle Political Writers
Friday, August 13, 2004

Santa Monica -- Just where, when and how much Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger plans to campaign for President Bush in the coming months was the subject of more speculation this week after the Republican governor's star turn at a Bush fund- raiser and his public discussions on the matter.

And, complicating the issue for Schwarzenegger is his friendly acquaintance with Bush's Democratic rival, Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts.

Schwarzenegger, the popular governor who is nearly guaranteed to generate excitement and fund-raising power for the Republican president, has seemingly changed his mind, and changed it again when questioned about his plans to help Bush's re-election effort.

Schwarzenegger had maintained earlier this year that he was too busy with state business to travel the country campaigning for the president. But he told a Los Angeles Times reporter Wednesday that he would most likely campaign out of state for Bush at some point in the campaign.

Then, on Thursday, the governor raised eyebrows again when he told a radio interviewer: "I will not go outside the state.''

I've never been able to figure out why arnold is a repuke. It seems like most of his positions on the issues are more in line with Democrats.

5. While he is liberal on some social/cultural issues...
he is repuke through and through when it comes to taxation, big bidness, workers' rights, etc.

That's why the media love him, he is the dream "elite" politician.

8. Divide and conquer
Some people are just dumb enough to be able to do it by luck

Divide and Conquer

One of the most popular algorithmic devices for computer scientists has been divide and conquer. Use of this method has led to the fast searches and sorts that every beginning student encounters. For some problems, it is also a good method for quick and easy approximations. Our strategy will be to divide an instance of a problem into smaller and smaller pieces until we are able to solve the problem for the smaller pieces. Then, if all goes well, joining together these good solutions for portions of the problem should provide a reasonable approximation to the original problem instance.

Closed City Tours shall be our first example. First, we divide our cities into eastern and western regions so that each region contains the same number of cities. Then we shall divide these into northern and southern sections in the same manner. Thus instead of merely bisecting the city space as a mathematician might do, we quadrisect the space in a computer science manner. Each region now contains roughly a quarter of the cities present in the original problem. This means that instead of (n-1)! possible tours, we now need only consider (n/4 – 1)! tours for each region. Figure 1 contains an example of a city space that has been partitioned.

7. "I will not go outside the state.''
Someone should tell The Gropinator New York City is not in California.

The Gropinator is giving a keynote speech at the GOP convention.

And to grope a few women while he's at it.
