Never a hostile question for campaigning Bush (AFP)
SIOUX CITY, United States (AFP)

President George W. Bush famously dislikes press conferences but has embraced "Ask President Bush" sessions packed with supporters at least as eager to pay tribute to him as get an answer. ..

Billed as informal question-and-answer opportunities for curious voters to quiz the most powerful man in the world, the carefully choreographed campaign events usually recycle the central points from his stump speech. ..

But would-be Bush hecklers face daunting obstacles: Loyalists handle giving out tickets to the event; home-made signs and banners are often forbidden; and in some cases access hinges on signing a loyalty oath.

"First priority goes to volunteers and supporters and then we reach out to people who are undecided and want to hear what the president has to say," according Bush campaign spokesman Scott Stanzel. ..

3. His handlers have no choice but to do it that way
He comes unglued with reporters- Can you imagine him facing a frustrated citizen? He'd melt down completely; a puddle of arrogant rage.

20. No Doubt
And he will wonder "where did all this anger come from?" And he will learn that there are disadvantages to getting ALL your news from sycophants who know better than to tell you anything remotely negative ...

5. Wow, that's really disturbing
"...and in some cases access hinges on signing a loyalty oath."

Not that taking an oath means much ... what exactly is it a President swears to do when taking the oath of office? I'm fairly certain Bush didn't uphold that ...

So, when I'm kicked out of his confrence for violating my oath and asking a REAL question ... I'll be sure and bring that point up.

6. I looked it up ...
I had the general idea, but I wasn't sure:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

That pretty much speaks for itself.

If you sign the oath will your name automatically be counted as a Bush vote in November no matter what?

27. here's how you screw up their "oath" screen test
advice by The Rude Pundit (who rocks! :headbang:):

You wanna fuck with a Bush/Cheney rally? Sign the goddamn oath. Just fuckin' lie. Christ, when George W. Bush took an oath to uphold the Constitution, he may as well have been saying "I love you" to a woman he just wanted to fuck that night.

Check out this dialogue: Republican "volunteer" dog: "Are you pro-life?"
The Rude Pundit: "Yeah, sure, why the fuck not?"
See? It's easy. Now you can attend the rally and chant, "Go fuck yourself, Cheney" all you want. No one's gonna show you your loyalty oath come election day.

8. Made for local TV news coverage
30 or 60 seconds of coverage on a local news broadcast is a free commercial. That's ALL these are for. Commercials that carry the credibility of "news".

10. WTF mate
In Beaverton, Bush supporters accused the Massachusetts senator of having a "fuzzy memory", of winning two of his five Vietnam war medals for "self-inflicted scratches".

We have got to combat that bullshit. Were any of his supporters there in Vietnam with Kerry? The people ho served on his boat say he got them fair and square.

14. They ought to change the name of Bush's campaign
Edited on Sun Aug-15-04 01:20 AM by Kool Kitty
swing from "Ask President Bush" to "Preaching to the Choir". "...and in some cases, access hinges on signing a loyalty oath." It makes me think of the Spike Jones' song, "The Fuhrer's Face"-"Not to love the Fuhrer, it is a great disgrace..." I'm 51 years old, and I can't remember ever having candidates make potential supporters sign a "loyalty oath". When are the people of this country going to wake the fuck up and look at what is passing as government these days?

It allows you to eat and breath...have you not read the meaning behind loyalty oaths as espoused by Joseph Heller in Catch-22?

21. The loyalty oaths state that you endorse *
and your name can be used by the Bush-Cheney campaign in advertisments and solicitations.

So if you sign it, the Repugs can call your neighbors and say, "Your neighbor endorses *, why don't you?"

18. I think they fear another Carole Coleman incident
They must be petrified that Bush will be stumped like a beauty pagent contestant who only has prepared answers on how her reign will spread world peace. If they get him off the talking points he won't know what to say just as when that kid asked him about his school librarian getting fired by a guy who makes $200,000 per year.

I'm so sick of this "softball" stuff. He had to have Cheney with him for the 9/11 Commisssion. Larry King Live was taped! A reporter asked him a question about his "faith" at a press conference. It's the Twilight Zone"!!!
