CNN: Iraq claims foreigners threatening mosque
Here is the pretext (false charge) that will allow Allawi and the US to destroy the mosque and blame someone else for the destruction:

Iraq claims foreigners threatening mosque

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Twenty-five heavily armed foreigners holed up inside the Imam Ali Mosque in Najaf have threatened to blow up the building, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said Sunday in a written statement.

2. The Shi'ites will NEVER swallow that one. And strangely, even if it were
true, if they had the names and home addresses of these people along with photos, fingerprints, and confessions, they will still blame the Allawi 'government' and the US.

Edited on Sun Aug-15-04 01:27 PM by Aidoneus
they're usually called "the Marines", and they're camped out somewhere OUTSIDE the Masjid. Count on CNN to screw up these things!

5. Remember...we were only a focus group..remember
we were ignored. We were villified, we were told we were wrong.
Bittersweet vindication. and the press still has blood on their hands for not ever questioning the assholes who started all this.
We are truly the most hated country on the face of the earth.

6. how did they get in?
Najaf is swarming with Shiites that revere the mosque, how did these foreigners manage to get in?

Why are the Shiites letting these foreigners threaten the mosque?

How does the govt. know this?

They wouldn't be lying about this, would they?

7. Fought their way in a blazing gunbattle with the heroic surrounding
Coalition and Iraqi forces. Unfortunately we missed it because
all the new media have been expelled for their own safety.

8. The Bush admin thinks Iraqis are as stupid as they think Americans are
Given that the people of Iraq were assaulted with Saddam Hussein's ham-handed propaganda for a few decades, they have to be one of the most skeptical people on earth right now.

The Bush administration seems to think Iraqis are as easy to manipulate as Americans -- in fact, it's as though their plans were predicated on that misconception.

9. this propaganda is probably aimed at us
as is the crackdown on Sadr, which is probably timed for our elections, and which they know has a negative effect on the actual Iraq situation.

11. The entire story is bogus, a lie from the Allawi regime
They intend to storm the mosque and kill everyone inside while blaming a mythical foreign enemy for the destruction. The lie is so transparent that only the American sheep would believe it.

14. Yep, we're going to hellfire the mosque and claim it was them...
They know we're smarter than to claim that Iraqis are inside. They wouldn't blow up one of their holiest shrines- it just doesn't make sense. So they say it was 25 "foreigners". So these foreigners broke into the mosque, killed those defending it and have rigged the whole thing to blow up?

How do you know they're foreigners, any way- not to mention are they rigging the explosives on the outside so it's visible? And if they've communicated to the US forces that it is rigged, what are there demands?

http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/081604W.shtml

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Iraqi police ordered all journalists to leave the holy city of Najaf on Sunday, just as a new U.S. offensive against militants hiding out in a revered shrine there began.
