US bombing kills civilians, Chinook downed

<snip>

Aljazeera sources in Iraq have reported that a US Chinook helicopter crashed in the Amariya district of Falluja as medical sources report more civilian casualties from an air strike.

However, there has been no official confirmation from US military sources.

Hospital officials told Aljazeera that five civilians were killed and six injured when US fighter jets bombed a home in the al-Askari district of Falluja.

"It started at 1130 (0830 GMT). The operation was defensive in nature and not offensive as our marines were being targeted and shot by small arms and RPGs," said Lieutenant Colonel T.V. Johnson.

2. Looks like things are getting further out of hand.
A single soldier from each of the Netherlands and Ukraine also died. There seems to be some widening of the effort against the coalition to other members than just Americans and British.

6. That's the story, anyway
We have no way of knowing when the mine was planted, and whether the person who planted it may have known who was likely to be in the location. The article mentioned that they were getting water from a well. It may well have been planted for the benefit of the Ukrainian troops.

Something like this was said to be the case when some Canadian soldiers hit a mine in Afghanistan earlier in the year.

3. If the story hasn't "gone corporate" yet, you'll never hear about it
When I say "go corporate" that means you have to either 1) hear about it on CNNFOXMSNBCABCCBS OR 2) confirmed by a US military spokesman.

Too many people either just refuse to get their news anywhere else, or they won't believe anything that does not come from the Pentagon spokesman or the corporate media. Both entities have the power to make stories "disappear", or bring people back to life who were reportedly killed.

5. No news from Iraq
Is it just me or has news from Iraq suddenly stopped altogether? With all the battles going on there one would think there would be more casualties.

7. At least the Carlyle Group is making money
and Halliburton and the rest of them. This kind of thing isn't bad news to a War Profiteer.
