Raise in Oil Output Not to Help Bush’s Re-Election: Bandar
http://www.arabnews.com/?page=4§ion=0&article=49935&d=16&m=8&y=2004

Prince Bandar ibn Sultan, the Kingdom’s ambassador to the United States, has dismissed allegations that Saudi Arabia’s decision to increase oil output was an effort to bolster re-election chances of President George W. Bush in November.

“There is no ‘secret plan’ to help the Bush administration,” Bandar wrote in the Washington Post yesterday, responding to accusations by “some politicians and media commentators.”

Saudi Arabia announced on Wednesday that it was ready to increase oil output by1 . 3million barrels per day (bpd) immediately to cope with world demand and curb soaring prices.

“The Kingdom is well prepared to meet all the requirements of the international oil companies if they need additional volumes, relying on its surplus production capacity of more than1 . 3million barrels daily, which could be used immediately if required,” the Saudi Press Agency quoted Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali Al-Naimi as saying in Riyadh.

1. Oh, "Bandar Bush" said this? Then it must be true.
All BFEE figures tell the truth at all times. Just ask 'em.

2. Bandar is right:
There is no "secret" plan; every thinking person already knows about it. Fuck you, Bandar, you absolute pile of rotting garbage.

6. Bush is only one half of the oil card.

If oil gets too expensive, alternative energies get competitive. Of course Bush does a hell of a lot to hinder alternative energies.

I think greed has more to do with it than Bush himself.

Not a word about Dumbass showing the Iraq invasion plans to Bandar when the file was labeled "Not For Foreign Eyes". This is a violation of something, aint it?

9. Of course it isn't. I don't care, it won't help Bush anyway and maybe it
will lower gas prices a little. Though somehow I doubt that either.

10. If it is meant to bring prices down, it's a flop
The price of crude oil on the open market is setting record highs, yet it is reported that production is also at record levels. What gives?

The only way to explain this is that demand is also at record levels and is outstripping supply. That being the case, there is only one conclusion that can be drawn: Oil prices will continue to rise regardless of who wins the election. This is one thing that cannot be directly blamed on a Bush blunder. Perhaps the Frat Boy and his friends can take some small comfort in that.

Nevertheless, that doesn't mean that Bush is off the hook. If the supply of oil cannot keep up with increasing demand, then the obvious solution is to develop alternative sources of energy. These will inevitably compete with existing profit centers, most notably multinational oil corporations which have foot much of the bill for Bush's political career. That should bring into question Mr. Bush's willingness to deal with the problem in a rational manner. So far, his solution seems to be fight resource wars on false pretenses and that isn't working too well.

Senator Kerry has presented an alternative energy policy in opposition to the failed policies of the Bush administration. Whether it is a good policy or not remains to be seen, but it deserves a serious look.
