Halliburton: Army Threat Withheld (For Third Time)
WASHINGTON (Reuters)


Halliburton Co. (HAL) on Monday said the U.S. Army had decided to give the company more time to resolve a billing dispute before withholding payment of up to 15 percent of the company's bills in Iraq and Kuwait.

The Army had given Halliburton unit Kellogg Brown and Root, its main logistics contractor in Iraq, a deadline of Sunday, Aug. 15, to resolve a billing dispute, or have 15 percent of payment withheld on future bills for feeding and housing U.S. troops.

``Based upon discussions with our client, the U.S. Army Materiel Command (AMC), it is our understanding that the suspension of the 15 percent withhold will remain in effect,'' Halliburton spokeswoman Wendy Hall said in an e-mail response to questions.

The threat to dock some payments had hung over the company because of a dispute over whether KBR properly documented its bills for feeding and housing troops in Iraq and Kuwait. Two previous extensions had been granted. ..
