Democrats want more info on Daniels' arrest

Indianapolis, Aug. 17 - Democrats from the Statehouse and City-County Council say Mitch Daniels needs to release all information concerning a State Police drug raid in 1970.

"I think anytime there's an arrest, indictment and conviction that the voters of Indiana deserve to know the details of what went on," says Representative Ed Mahern (D - Indianapolis). ..

Newspaper accounts reported that in addition to marijuana, an undercover officer bought other drugs, including LSD, during numerous visits to the room over about a three-month period. Another officer later testified he found enough marijuana there to fill two size-12 shoe boxes.

Five months later, a grand jury indicted Daniels on two counts, marijuana possession and maintaining a nuisance. The nuisance was maintaining a room for the illegal keeping and selling of narcotic drugs. ..

Ellen Whitt is Daniels' campaign spokeswoman. "He's been through several background checks, has had the highest security clearance you can have for a position in federal government. I think this is a pathetic personal attack."

As early as April 2001, political pundits were already speculating that Daniels would be the Republican candidate for governor in 2004.

This is fantastic news! This puke has people wearing green T-shirts with the caption "My Man Mitch" and they act like Nazi Brown-shirts. At a peace march in Gary the Mitch squad booed a group of my Socialist friends calling them "Democrats." My Red friends have never been called "Democrats" before!

I want our own JK to win election as Governor. Mitch Daniels avoided the draft while our JK, current Governor Joe Kernan, is a Vietnam war hero and former POW.

And Democrat Governor Joe Kernan says he smoked pot a few times in his twenties.

Governor Joe Kernan explained, "It was a mistake for me to do it, and it's something that since then in my public life, I've recognized and tried to do everything I can to eradicate what I think is a scourge on our country."

Mitch Daniels, candidate for governor, said, "It's a rare person who doesn't make a mistake somewhere or have a wild oats period at some point. The question is, how did you lead your whole life? Did you learn from your mistake? Were you honest about it? Did you put it behind you? We both did."
