French Going Wild For Senator Kerry In Election Fever
‘A Certain Elegance" Is Seen

PARIS — It could be the flawless French he learned while at boarding school in Switzerland. Or that he summered in his youth at a picturesque village on the rocky shores of Brittany. Or his pledge to take America’s allies more seriously and pursue an inclusive foreign policy.

Or maybe it’s the simple fact that he’s not President Bush.

Whatever the reason, the French are going wild for John Kerry.

(snip)

“It is so important to have a president who knows Europe, whose spirit is open to its people and culture. Bush is so closed to the world. With Kerry there is a hope that we can start getting along with the United States again,” she said.

Mrs. Borde said the French see in Mr. Kerry the kind of leader they are more accustomed to.

“He is the closest thing that you will have to a French politician, with a certain diplomacy, a certain elegance,” she said.“He is more like a leader would be in Europe,” Mr. Parmentier said. Asked in what way, he laughed and replied: “Well, he doesn’t look Texan.”

Unlike the rethuglicans we liberals like the rest of the world and don't want it to be a mirror image of America.

VIVA LA DIFFERENCE!

4. I love European politicians
Too bad we don't have more like them here! Glad to see they like Kerry. Hopefully he can repair our friendships with the french and germans when he wins.

12. I keep remembering when John Kennedy first went to Paris
And how the French swoooned all over Jackie.

I expect John and Theresa to have the same effect.

The Freepers will hold it against them, of course. They don't think you can be a real American unless you have shit on your boots.

But it might just help with repairing our tattered reputation in the rest of the world.

20. What do they have against a surly, childish, petty, spiteful, stupid man?
He was selected, after all, by a very prestigious group of legal minds. That must mean he's really special!

6. I'd think the French would be delighted to have a visit from

an American president and first lady who both speak French. Americans are notorious for our national lack of fluency in other languages. And sometimes our lack of tact. Remember Bush* getting pissed at the American reporter who asked Chirac a question in French? So embarrassing.

10. Of course, being printed in the conservative NY Sun,
this article is considered a slur. It's an inside thing with them.

I just wish Americans could appreciate Kerry's qualities the way the more mature French people do. They're not looking for someone to have a beer with. Their politicians and diplomats are bred for their jobs, and taught diplomacy, languages, and etiquette. There's no way an unschooled bumpkin from the provinces could become a leader. It's quite possibly better that way, considering what we've got to choose from.

15. I agree. When Shrub went to Normandy I was appalled at
his bellicose attitude in the face of the gentile and gracious welcome to those ceremonies remembering WWII. I was riveted to the teley watching Chirac and other dignitaries as they came to the events..all so polished and "smart". Bush looked like a complete BOOB. I was soooooooo embarrassed to have him represent us in that sacred place.!!
