(08/19/04) -- Who would've ever thought that members of hippy jam-band The Dead weren't fans of the Bush administration? Noooo! Well, like many other musicians these days, the Dead aren't shy about letting people know how they feel about their anti-Dubya stance during a summer-long Wave That Flag tour, which wraps up tonight in Atlanta. "It's time to get registered, it's time to vote," Weir told Rolling Stone. "If you ever want to vote again, do it now. I'm not telling people who to vote for. I think they can figure it out. But I will say this: if every Deadhead in the state of Florida had voted in the last election, it'd be a very different world right now." According to Weir, the Dead's abrupt move into politics came from a personal sense of urgency. "It occurs to me and the rest of the guys that this may be our last meaningful election," Weir said. "If we continue to drift the way we're drifting, the United States will become a democracy in name only. ..

I glad to see Bob Weir saying something about this (he said the same on Al Franken's show a couple of weeks back).

Saw the boys in Camden recently and Bobby did his "get out and vote speech". I have been going their shows since '86 and and NEVER saw anything political on stage until that night.

In the audience it was another story.
