Phoenix out to ban Web porn in libraries
Phoenix wants to ban library patrons' access to Internet pornography, an action that could put the city at the center of a First Amendment debate.

Mayor Phil Gordon and a majority of City Council members said it's time to change the policy that allows adults unrestricted Internet access in the wake of last week's arrest of a child molester who accessed child porn on library computers.

"The fact that it is legal for someone as an individual to view pornography doesn't mean that there is a constitutional obligation for the city, as a public entity, to provide everyone access to it," Gordon said. "That's what I believe in my heart, what I believe as a parent and what I believe as mayor."

Vice Mayor Peggy Bilsten goes so far as to say, "Let people take us to court."

1. Just as libraries are not required to stock child-porn magazines,
libraries don't have to allow access to child-porn sites.

This should be a good case.

4. How do you block it? None of the filters really work.
All the court cases so far have found that the filters block many non-porn sites.

2. I agree. Does this belong in LBN?

I'd be interested to know what type of individual goes to a public library to look at pornography!

5. I don't think it's the type of individual
that goes to a public library to look at porn is the problem. It's the point that children can be exposed to it very easily. Anyone can do and innocent google search and find porn sites they were not looking for. Something has to be done.
