Raise funds for George Bush's campaign and expect more than a thank- you card - expect an exotic diplomatic posting.
The President has managed to appoint two of his fund-raisers as ambassadors to the Bahamas and Estonia, and named two others for plum jobs overseeing development programs in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Normally these posts are reserved for career diplomats, but Mr Bush avoided official scrutiny by making the appointments when Congress was not in session.
Each of the four fund-raisers has raised at least between $US100,000 <$137,000> and $US200,000 for Mr Bush's re-election campaign. .snip.
John Rood, who takes over as ambassador to the Bahamas. Mr Rood is an important fund-raiser for the Florida Republican Party and has already enjoyed the gratitude of the state's governor and Mr Bush's brother, Jeb Bush, who appointed him to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Mr Rood, however, was criticised for not protecting endangered species such as the Florida panther and the manatee while in the post. .snip.
