Bush Campaign Busted Passing Out “Swift Boat Veterans for Bush” Flyer

Washington, DC - Despite constant denials, the Bush-Cheney campaign today was busted coordinating with the “Swift Boat Veterans for Bush” in their smear campaign against John Kerry. The following press release was issued this afternoon by the Florida Democratic Party. The evidence is attached.

“Bush Campaign Caught Promoting "Swift Boat Vets for Truth" While National Campaign Denies Coordination, Campaign in Florida Promotes Rally

Tallahassee -- On the same day that the Bush-Cheney campaign repeatedly denied coordinating attacks with the anti-Kerry group "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth," the Bush-Cheney campaign in Florida was caught promoting a rally in Gainesville for the group.

A flyer being distributed at the Alachua County Republican party headquarters, which doubles as the Bush-Cheney campaign headquarters for the county, promotes a weekend rally sponsored by "Swift Boat Vets for Truth, Veterans for Bush, Alachua Bush/Cheney Committee," and others.

87. Time to smoke bush out from hiding
It's time American taunt bush enough to smoke him out from hiding, he always has a way of talking tough but always manages to hide behind someone else whenever things go wrong. It's time bush is forced to stand up like a man and address this character issue. He claims to take the high road, let's force him to do that, let him bring his military records out and discuss what HE did during Vitnam just as John Kerry is forced to discuss what he did. Taunting bush will force him out, he is a tough talking chicken and if he is called that enough he will cracxk under pressure and come out crying, then Amercans can see the pathetic idvdidual he is. The battle cry must be "time to taunt bush" time to make him standup like a man, if he is half the man he wants people to believe he is, he will accept the challenge...

88. wait for the "official spin"
first they will again deny having a connection, then they will blame it on "over-zealous" staffers

if that doesn't work - it will be some statement saying - "..although we have no connection to swiftboaters, we respect freedom of speech...."

91. Overzealous Local Pary loyalists not approved by the national campeign
It'll be bullshit but they'll probably be able to cover their asses unless someone's got some proof this came from national Bush/Cheney headquarters.

I sure hope we can nail them on this but I'm realistic.

... between "Swift Boat Vets for Truth (sic)" and "Alachua Bush/Cheney Committee." Without question, that's a smoking gun.

(I won't hold my breath for the FEC, however.)

59. Interesting tidbit from the Miami Herald:
CRAWFORD, Texas - A volunteer for John Kerry said Friday he picked up a flier in a Bush-Cheney campaign office in Gainesville, Fla., promoting Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, a group the Bush campaign has insisted for weeks it has no connection to.

<snip>

At Bush-Cheney campaign headquarters outside Washington, spokesman Steve Schmidt said: "The Bush-Cheney campaign has nothing to do with that piece of paper. ... I don't know how it showed up at the campaign headquarters."

"The Bush-Cheney campaign would object to any flier like this being displayed in any Republican headquarters," said Schmidt. He characterized the campaign operation in Gainesville where the flier was found as county GOP offices used by Bush-Cheney volunteers....

<snip>

....a Kerry volunteer in Gainesville, says he went to the GOP offices there Thursday and picked up the flier from a pile of literature on the table.
"The flier they gave me was on the same table as some Bush-Cheney bumper stickers," said Shilling. "I asked them if the Swift boat veterans were coming to Gainesville, and the woman I talked to said yes."

26. Even is Kerry has ties to Moveon.org
have they ever actually inserted blatant lies in their ads? Besides the 2 Nazi ads in the Bush in 30 Seconds contest (which were submissions by citizens, not of Move On), I don't believe they have so those ties would prove to be harmless.

Trouble following. Let me help you. MoveOn was formed in 1998 in response to the ridiculous Clinton cockhunt and has been active ever since. There are no ties to Kerry.

Swifties were formed right after Kerry became the front-runner and have obvious ties to Bush (not to mention the flyers).

30. Craig Crawford just mentioned this direct connection on Hardball
Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 06:59 PM by wishlist
and Tom Oliphant said that it was very stupid of Bushco to have the Swiftboat ad sponsored by people with such extremely close connections and Andrea Mitchell mentioned that the newest ad was even produced by the same people who produced the anti-McCain ad. Oliphant did a good job of pointing out that the Swiftboat liars directly contradict either their own previous statements or the official records so they do not meet any credibility test.

Betcha there is some furious internet scrubbing going on.

(Chain of fools)

For five long years
I thought you were my man
But I found out, I?m just a link in your chain
Oh, you got me where you want me
I ain?t nothin but your fool
Ya treated me mean
Oh you treated me cruel

Chain, chain, chain

from the Republican Headquarters in Alachua County, which is also serving has the Bu$h Campaign Headquarters.

This is the front entrance at 1212 N. Main St. Gainesville FL

Looking through the glass doors you can see an easel, with announcements about upcoming events. On the right side of the display is the flyer for the Pro USA Political Rally.

Sure looks like the Bush campaign headquarters is totally supporting this event.

I was just thinking, I hope someone in the area will be able to go to the rally this weekend and take some pictures and/or video. Were you planning to do so?

I hope you will forward your pictures to the Kerry campaign - as well as to the media.

Btw, I went to the Alachua County Republican Party website. I couldn't find any mention of this rally, but they have all sorts of stories about the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth on the home page.

It's not just that they're announcing the picnic. It's that it's a joint campaign event between the Swifties and the Bush/Cheney campaign! How abysmally stupid do they have to be to do something like this after all the media furor??? (I've left stuff in the commode with more intelligence and integrity.)

112. REALLY not funny, although
when I first saw this I thought it was great. I've seen the original pic since I was eight years old. But then I read an article about Oswald's daughter...you can imagine how hard her life has been. No mention was made of this photo, but I'm sure she's run across it all her life too. Whatever else it is, it's a picture of someone's daddy getting blown away. Not funny at all, no matter what you do to it.

92. Appreciate the stamp of approval
There is no way that I could have even tried to fake those pics on such short notice. Especially since the Republican Headquarters had already been closed for the day by the time the news broke. That was one of the reasons why I posted the pics last night, in order to document time and place.

BTW: Welcome to DU :hi:

93. YOUR PICTURES
Sorry if you already did this (this is my first post!).
Please get these to a newspaper. Mark them "copyright.." and ask that they be printed. If you can, e-mail them to the NY Times. I have seen this story only online on Yahoo news, it has to get out there.

Thanks for getting the evidence!

52. First of all...
Moveon.org does not claim to be Smirk's brethren in arms from TANG days. Secondly, no other group supporting Kerry makes up outright LIES about how Kerry was wounded or acted when they weren't there. Lots of evidence Kerry earned everything he got. Zero evidence Your Shrub spent one day doing TANG duty in Alabama for a whole freaking year.

Get it?

54. Realists not welcome?
This election is not about who has ties to what 527 group when most Americans don't care!! The reality is certain groups support Kerry and others supports W, you're asking the average voter to somehow differentiate between the two because we say so. We should better concentrate our efforts on real reasons why Kerry needs to win.

P.S. if moderate democrats are not allowed on this board let me know. It won't be that hard to give up after getting flamed after one post.

suggest she get locked away and throw away the key if JFK is to beat GWB.

 But that is JUST a wild, random guess!

57. It's illegal to coordinate
And your party is coordinating. That's the rub.

And until the 527 groups gave us a bit of an advantage (temporary I'm sure) in money to be spent in an election cycle, you guys were ALL FOR no regulations in election campaigns, weren't you?

Now you change your tune.

78. None of these guys can get their stories . . .
straight. And it stinks to high heaven. Here's Larry Thurlow caught like deadmeat on a butcher's hanger, and the guy still maintains he's a truth-teller. UNREAL!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5751284/

Is it machismo? book sale profits? power? revenge (for what?)? an inability to see things objectively? or merely hurt pride in what these twisted Nam vets perceive was Kerry's agenda when he gave testimony before congress about the VietNam War? Frankly, I believe it's the latter, pride.

However, it all boils down to stupidity. These "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" are any but truthful! One wonders what the hell ELSE is fermenting in the bowels of rightwing Texas areas?

89. KARL ROVE: THE KING OF DIRT
Seems like Rove has been caught with his pants down....

Below is a excerpt from Wayne Madsen

The target for such a campaign is Karl Rove, George W. Bush's political Svengali, and the chief instigator of character assassination campaigns against those who challenge the policies of the Bush administration. Democrats, progressives and the liberally inclined must learn to fight fire with fire, Rove tactics against Rove tactics. This evil practitioner of political chicanery earned his stripes first as an apprentice of Richard Nixon's dirty trickster, Donald Segretti. Rove then went on to hone and refine his duplicitous craft under Republican National Committee chairmen George H. W. Bush, Lee Atwater, and, finally, George W. Bush (who affectionately and alternately calls Rove his "boy genius" and "turd blossom").

After trashing the personal character of former Texas Democratic Governors Mark White and Ann Richards, Texas Democratic Representative Lloyd Doggett, and Arizona Republican Senator John McCain, Rove now uses his Felix the Cat-like bag of dirty tricks to assassinate the characters of noble and non-political men and women. It is clearly time to take action against Rove, and give this maniac a taste of his own bitter medicine.

Over the years, Rove has relied on the planting of bogus stories in the media, production of counterfeit documents, the theft of campaign materials and internal documents, production of false witnesses, electronic eavesdropping, misuse of government resources, unethical political polling techniques, intimidation of minority voters, and "whispering campaigns" to advance the sordid agenda of the neo-conservative, extreme right wing of the Republican Party.

97. After all the shit these slimeballs have done I still doubt this will
amount to the smoking gun we need. I sincerely hope it is or something else comes out to sink these mofos. Rove is the dirtiest of political tricksters whom to anyone with a shred of a sense is an out-and-out criminal.

I'd LOVE to see him in handcuffs. Ohhh please let that day come.

Hasn't it become clear that when one side controls all 3 branches of government anything can happen without consequences? Public outrage isn't going to happen because it would take more than 10 one syllable words to explain that this is FUCKING ILLEGAL.

103. Each reply sends a thread back up the page
So a "kick" is a post that is intended to keep a thread on the front page of the forum, near the top, where it will be seen by more people.

Excessive kicking is frowned on, however.

At Bush-Cheney campaign headquarters outside Washington, spokesman Steve Schmidt said: "The Bush-Cheney campaign has nothing to do with that piece of paper. ... I don't know how it showed up at the campaign headquarters." LMAO Nothing like a good laugh in the morning.

107. Topic #841 that everyone thinks matters that totally doesn't
You are ought of your mind if you think this is going to have some kind of serious affect on Bush at all. Bush will just distance himself from this county headquarters, saying they were not acting appropriately at that level, and move on.
