Prominent Republicans Offer the RIGHT Response to the War on Drugs
Common Dreams NewsWire

Prominent Republicans are featured in a full-page ad under the headline “the Right response to the War on Drugs”. The ad will run in the New York Sun each day of the Republican National Convention, August 30th – September 2nd.

“Most Republicans simply don’t know that many of their most prominent leaders think the drug war is a disaster,” said Ethan Nadelmann, Executive Director of the Drug Policy Alliance. “This ad seemed a good way to let them know, and to plant the seeds for a more vigorous Republican drug policy debate in years to come.”

The publishers of the New York Sun plan a special distribution to make the paper available to every RNC delegate in town as well as thousands of others attending the convention.

Statements from Milton Friedman, William Buckley Jr., Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Grover Norquist, Gary Johnson and George Shultz are featured in the Drug Policy Alliance ad. Text from the ad includes: ..

1. My fear is that the Republicans will come out and support the
the effort to decriminalize marijuana. That'd drive a whole segment of new Republicans to vote for them. It's really a Democratic isue and it would be the right thing to do on so many levels.

4. If the Pugs were to push decrim
and the Democrats were to fight it, then everything I've ever thought about politics is a lie. I've always said that pugs are the anti-progress side, Democrats are the progressive side, if that were to be reversed I don't know what I'd do.

6. I know what I'd do
and the Dems won't like it. I hope they are not that stupid, but they never fail to amaze me with their stupidity.

5. It is not a Democratic issue
And if it were, we would be smashing the living crap out of the Republican party, the party of racial and class incarceration.

Not many Dems have shown spine on this issue. Almost as many Repubs have as Dems. If the Democratic party lost over this, it would be poetic justice.

10. Yes ... the War on (Some) Drugs, aka Pharmaceutical Entitlement Act.
It's a PEA-brained idea and it's a PEA-brained waste. Reagan was just the PEA-brain to do it. "Just Say No" (and 20 years to life.)
