Sonia world's third most powerful woman

FRIDAY, AUGUST 20, 2004 05:31:39 PM

US first lady Laura Bush and Senator Hillary Clinton have been placed at the fourth and fifth positon by the magazine in the list of 100 most powerful women in the world that included Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri (8) and Phillippines President Gloria Arroyo (9).

In a brief profile of the 57-year-old Gandhi, the magazine said no other woman in recent times has been more widely revered in India than her.

"Gandhi made headlines in May when, after the party (Congress) she led won India's democratic elections, she declined to take over the Prime Minister's seat," it noted....cont'd

2. I can see Condi Rice, but Laura Bush? She's a damn wet noodle
Her only assignment as First Lady is to be a Stepford. At least Hillary Clinton is doing something to make this world a better place

3. this list is so much bullshit
By what rationale is Sonia Gandhi the world's third most powerful woman? because following Congress's victory she was convinced to decline to act as figurehead to a party that's only BARELY distinguishable from its opposition? WHAT exactly does she have that Manmohan Singh does not? OH RIGHT SHE'S ITALIAN and also THE WIDOW OF NEHRU'S GRANDSON. Congress won the elections, that is to say, they sort of won a majority in Parliament. Ms Gandhi just happened to be president of the party. It is really that simple.

Also WTF is Laura Bush doing on this perfectly abitrary list
