KE Fact Sheet: Bush Eliminating Overtime Pay for 6 Million Workers
US Newswire

On Monday, August 23rd, six million US workers will lose their right to overtime pay. Workers are already working harder and not getting ahead. Millions of families rely on overtime pay to pay the bills and make ends meet. The new Bush rule will cost these workers hundreds of dollars a month, making it harder to get ahead. ..

Regulations Make More American Workers Exempt from Overtime Pay. According to an analysis by three former Labor Department officials of both Democratic and Republican administrations, "It is our conclusion that, with the sole exception of the salary level adjustment, in every instance where the Department has made substantive changes to the existing rules...it has weakened the regulatory criteria for, and thereby expanded the reach and scope of, the (overtime) exemptions." (Fraser, et. al., "Observations on the Department of Labor's Final Regulations," ..

1. If this isn't made a major issue--and an issue of character--we're fools
Shying away from class warfare, like running from the label of "liberal" and trying to out macho the thugs, is foolish.

It should be shown as endemic of the values of the Republicans, and the fact that they try to confuse the issue by saying how little impact it will have shows their callousness and inherent dishonesty.

This is a golden opportunity, and if anything means anything, this should.

5. Sorry to say
the unions are all but done for now.

Unions no longer have the power they once had. Union busting, changes in the laws, changes in departmental regs, alterations to attitudes, have all contributed. Many many reasons. My union doesn't even have the power to strike. (federal workforce). We have to rely on the largess of management if they don't want to bargain in good faith. (and they don't)

Many if the issues of the old time unions disappeared, and so did much of the perceived need for the unions. unfortunately, the issues are re-appearing in spades, and few are around now who are activists and know how to fight back.

Very sad state of affairs.

4. Very glad to see Kerry jumped right on this today. I emailed the
campaign yesterday and told them I thought the Swift Boat Liars was in part to cover up this overtime thing which is going into effect Monday.

Are still going to superscede the nations, and that Bush's will only effect federal workers in Wisconsin.

It was in my paper today, I'll try to find it online.
