Graphic Designer Fired After Heckling Bush
As posted on my news page: http://www.tvnewslies.org/news/#domestic

A man who heckled President Bush at a political rally was fired from his job at an advertising and design company. The graphic designer said he was told he'd embarrassed and offended a client who provided tickets to the event.

5. I hate to say this, but if the guy who provided the tickets was a
GOOD client, he could have contacted this firms owner, complained, and said Get Rid of Him! Every company I've ever worked for always did what ever it took to keep the good customers happy.

If he would have been fired for the heckling just because his boss was a shrub supporter, THAT might have been cause for a wrongful dismissal suit, but don't piss of the customers.

8. Yeah ......
working in a related field, I can see this happening as well.

When you're with a client, you don't want to piss them off. It's best to keep your mouth shut. If you lose your company and your fellow workers a great deal of work, they're gonna be ROYALLY pissed off at you, and deservedly so.

Sometimes I work for people I can't stand, you just have to grin and bear it, bite your tongue, and hope they go away soon.

It's one thing to cut your own throat as far as work goes, but when it involves others, and their livelihoods, it's a different deal.

13. It doesn't say he was "with" a client
Many clients provide tickets to events but don't attend themselves. And if this so called heckling amounted to only asking a question/making a comment regarding the war and WMD's then he wasn't out of line asking the man whose salary we all pay about his concerns.

the guy is toast. We may disagree with it, we don't like it, but it's a nono to upset a client.

16. Any businessperson who lets a client control his company ...
... is a fool who deserves to lose his company. It's a very old lesson. Hewlett and Packard refused to allow any customer become so large they couldn't afford to lose them. When that happens, that customer controls the company.

15. One of the Kerry Swift hecklers is a prosecutor in Oregon - complain?
Edited on Sat Aug-21-04 02:14 PM by Democat
A Clackamas County prosecutor and decorated Vietnam veteran who appears in an ad attacking Democratic presidential contender John F. Kerry's war record said he did not witness the events in question and is relying on the accounts of his friends who served with the senator.

The 60-second ad, which aired for seven days this month in Ohio, West Virginia and Wisconsin, features 13 Vietnam veterans, including Alfred French, 58, a senior deputy district attorney in Clackamas County.

A prosecutor and government employee basically caught lying and trashing Kerry even though he admits he knows nothing abou thim in a TV ad which he was probably paid for and that's ok, even though the public is supposed to be able to trust him to uphold the truth?

22. First, his actions reflected nothing on the company, because no
one else in the crowd knew he was with any particular company.

Second, the minute any client starts telling me what to say or believe is his last day on my rolls (in business 27 years!)

Third, I wouldn't have the company take tickets to an event like this from anybody.

Fourth, why would you want to work for a weak person like this? They'll obviously never make it long term.

Fifth: FUCK EVERYBODY who fucks with people that they have a financial control over. This is just plain immoral. I certainly don't expect everyone who works with me to agree with me on everything. If they did, I'd tell them to wipe that brown spot off their cheeks (that'd be a bit deeper than brown-nosing).

But that's just me.

28. The difference....
Between ass-kissing and brown-nosing is......

Depth Perception.

I would suppose that worse than that would be having your head up their backside... I guess the telltale would be the ring around the neck.

Perhaps these folks have lost perception of the depth of crap that's burying us? I would buy that. I don't understand why people don't see right through the distortions of the truth. It just strikes me as obvious when I see it. Perhaps it requires some thought, and I think that there's a huge anti-intellectual sentiment. The dislike might not only be for smart people, but for anyone who forces them to think outside of their well-worn paths.

"The client was a public relations worker who represents the Berkeley County school district, he said. "It's just bizarre that you disagree with them and it all turns evil," Hiller said."

whoa! the objector to the activity was an employee of a publically held entity, a school district? the rally was is a public school?

i could see if the client was a guy who worked for an entity that ended in 'co.' or 'inc.' or 'llc.' etc, BUT A PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT?

35. Sounds to me like this guy deserved to be fired
The only reason this guy was even at the campaign event is because a client provided his employer with tickets. So this guy uses a ticket, and then proceeds to behave in a rude and offensive manner, embarassing his employer. I don't give a flying f*ck about this guy's politics -- he had to have known that his behavior would reflect badly on his employer. It's one thing to go to a Bush rally on your own and hold up a Kerry/Edwards sign. It's another thing to go to a ticketed event on the dime of one of your employer's clients and then begin heckling.

Think about it this way -- what if the client had been a big-time Democratic contributor? What if the tickets had been to a private Kerry/Edwards event? What if the heckler had been a Republican assh*le? Would people around here be complaining if the guy got fired?

People around here would not be complaining, but in today's Bush-ass-kissing sycophantic climate, the anti-Kerry/Edwards trojan horse heckler would probably have been commended by the client and promoted to COO.
