Bush's Nephew Rips Armed Border Guards
http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/news/world/9462430.htm?1c

MARK STEVENSON
Associated Press

MEXICO CITY - President Bush's nephew, campaigning for overseas votes in Mexico on Saturday, called the federal policy of arming U.S. Border Patrol agents with plastic pellet guns "reprehensible."

Speaking in a mix of English and sometimes-halting Spanish, George P. Bush said his uncle was not to blame for the gun policy, which has angered Mexicans. He instead blamed it on "some local INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service) guy who's trying to be tough, act macho."

"If there has been American approval for this policy, that is reprehensible," Bush said of the guns, essentially paintball projectiles filled with chile powder. "It's kind of barbarous."

The pellet guns, which were approved at the federal level, have been used on a trial basis since 2001 in California and Arizona. The U.S. Border Patrol fired the pepper-balls in 81 instances in 2002-03 and reported no deaths or severe injuries.

1. if even the press calls it "sometimes-halting Spanish..."
Edited on Sat Aug-21-04 09:25 PM by thebigidea
... it must mean he could barely speak it, considering they rave over W's coupla mangled words.

What's especially cute about this is that Bush no doubt has people campaigning for him on the other side of the border, promising to toughen border security.

18. I suppose there are some in Mexico, but 1 million?
What in the world are they doing living in Mexico? We are constantly fighting to keep illegals from crossing the border into the US from Mexico, but we have 1 million US citizens who are legally in Mexico? I can't agrue the point because I simply don't know, but something doesn't sound right to me.

7. Forget the headline
These are the choice paragraphs:

The younger Bush, whose father is Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and mother, Columba, is originally from Mexico, acknowledged at a news conference that the war in Iraq is not popular in Mexico but defended the military action, saying "we're almost done with it."

and

He called Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez "a dictator" and cast doubt on his victory last week in a recall referendum, saying Chavez had "a long history of fraud." Outside observers, including former President Jimmy Carter, have endorsed the Venezuelan vote counts.

Yup, this guy is dumb enough to be a Bush. I'd like to have Uncle GeeW give some clarification on these two utterances.

12. George P. ?
This is the same George P. Bush that on December 31, 1994, Bush showed up at 4 AM at the Miami home of a former girlfriend. He proceeded to break into the house via the woman's bedroom window, and then began arguing with his ex's father. Bush, then a Rice University student, soon fled the scene. But he returned 20 minutes later to drive his Ford Explorer across the home's front lawn, leaving wide swaths of burned grass in his wake. Young Bush avoided arrest when the victims declined to press charges. Gee I wonder why?

13. More Lack of Class from the Bush Dynasty
Reminds me of Jenna's sticking her tongue out at reporters. This family appears to believe they are above common norms of decency and class.

15. Overseas votes in Mexico? That's geographically impossible....
We share the same land mass as Mexico. Someone should inform this dolt of a reporter that Mexico is in NORTH AMERICA just like the US. Mexico is indeed "foreign", but it is not "overseas." Why do we have vapid, clueless idiots writing the news?

16. Continuing the family tradition: telling lies for votes.
"some local guy" is lie. Truth: federal policy since 2001, a year in which his uncle ran the federal government for about 49 weeks.
