Kazaa Owner Cheers File-Swapping Decision
The Associated Press

The distributor of file- swapping giant Kazaa welcomed a U.S. court's ruling that two of its rivals are not legally liable for the songs, movies and other copyright works shared online by their users.

Among other reasons for its landmark ruling Thursday, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said Grokster Ltd. and StreamCast Networks Inc. were not responsible because they don't have central servers pointing users to copyright material.

Nikki Hemming chief executive officer of Sharman Networks, the Sydney-based company that distributes the immensely popular Kazaa peer-to-peer, or P2P, software hailed the ruling Friday as "a fantastic result for the peer-to-peer community. This ruling reinforces similar decisions in other courts around the world that P2P is legal."

She called on the entertainment industry to "stop litigating and start partnering with us. Legislation is not the answer, commercialization of P2P is." ..

1. Swell, but what does that mean to the regular people who get sued?
So KaZaa is off the hook? What about the ordinary people who were railroaded by the music industry's witch hunt?

2. How to fuck up your computer 101
Download that sorry ass excuse of a program and watch your hard drive work it's ass off while you just sit there and wonder why. They use your hard drive for things other than you downloading music or movies. KaZaa SUCKS!

10. Google it. I've had it a long time. I just googled and plenty came up.
We no longer distribute Kazaa Lite at the request of Sharman Networks, Ltd. as Kazaa Lite is an illegal, hacked version of Kazaa.

Because of that, I think you're on your own.

15. Kazaa "lite"
is a serious spyware offender. It's given the name lite just to dupe you. Get it off your computer.

17. No spyware in my K L. Our tech checked it out.
It is important to never accept an upgrade. All of our computers (except the new notebooks) are monitored for all output and have seamless firewalls which catch any unauthorized output. Downloading music is one thing our friendly engineer hates us doing so it is obsessively filtered and checked for virus's. Our techie is the only male on our staff of ten so his engineer buddies are always dropping by lending a hand. They bring us lots of computer goodies and keep us feeling a bit dim with all their knowledge, but it's fun.

6. Ordinary people will continue to take it up the ass.
Haven't you heard? People don't count anymore (unless they happen to be in the top 1 percentile of wealth).

I'm surprised that anybody uses kazaa anymore. Their software is such a pile of junk (and that's being polite about it).

7. I'm surprised how many computer users
don't even know what spyware is or how to fight it. Even when you have some anti-spyware programs on your computer the programs warn you that you may be breaking the warranty of the manufacturer if you remove them. All I have to say is REMOVE that shit unless you want them to know every website you visit. It's nobody's business where I go on the internet. I don't need my internet surfing enhanced as they so kindly put it. I will do that on my own without their input. fuck spyware and fuck cookies

9. Do you know if SoulSeek has any serious spyware?
I've found it much more efficient than Kazaa (which isn't saying much) and I'm pretty sure it cloaks your IP so that you cannot be traced. Just wondering if you know anything negative about SS. Thanks.

12. Case in Point
Download and use these two FREE anti-spyware programs. You will never have to wonder if your computer has spyware.
Spybot S&D....http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
AdAware....http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
Download and check for updates. If you don't have these on your machine I will bet YOU have spyware!!! Use at least twice a week.

13. Thanks but
I already use both of those, along with spywareblaster. Sometimes S and D says it has problems working with adaware, do you know if there's a way to fix it?

16. I get that same message
According to S&D, that's normal when you have Ad-Aware installed. Nothing to worry about.

I have had Kazaa lite for a couple years. I have never, ever found any spyware on my PC's I could trace to Kazaa lite.

AOL Instant Messenger, on the other hand, and the slew of websites associated with "enhancements" for AIM my daughter can't stop from visiting are serious problems. At least once I week I have to remove browser-hijackers and other programs from the kids PC.

I'm on a Mac. I need to look into the Spyware info. Thanks.
