Koch says he left Democrats over Iraq policy ("liberal with sanity")
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 11:40 AM by Nambe
NEW YORK (AP)

Calling himself a ``liberal with sanity,'' former mayor Ed Koch a lifelong Democrat says he decided to support President Bush in the 2004 election because of Bush's policy on Iraq.

Koch says he doesn't agree with Bush on any domestic matters, but there's only one matter that's important in this race, and that relates to standing up to international terrorism.

Koch says only Bush has established that he is willing to do that. ..

Still, Koch said Bush's unwavering opinions contrasted favorably with what he called the ``hypocrisy'' of Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry. Koch said Kerry had wavered on Iraq and gay marriage. ..

15. Koch Works For Likud NOT Israel
this is an important distinction... Koch supports the Far Right Extremists who've siezed control in Israel and who profit from the onging turmoil.

Saying that Likud is Israel or support for their extreme agenda is necessary to support Israel
is like saying that someone who supports the Neo-Cons supports the United States.

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

9. What horsepucky
How did Bush stand up to international terrorists in Iraq? He didn't.

Saddam had no ties to al Qaida. What part of that do some people not undertstand?

I bristle everytime some fool like Koch tries to associate the invasion with the war on terrorism. It was colonial piracy, pure and simple, and the Bushies cynically used September 11 to drum up support for their misadaventure.

Koch may be sane, but he's still a dupe.

10. Only gw* has established that he is willing to stand up to terrorism?
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 12:04 PM by LiberalFighter
What a bunch of bull hockey!!

gw* didn't stand up to terrorism from the beginning when he was told about it by the Clinton Administration.

gw* didn't get bin laden.

gw* fought creating the 9/11 commission.

gw* hasn't proved that he can stand up to terrorism except with words.

If we want to have an effective fight against terrorism we need to have Democratic Congress that will support the president's efforts to fight it. gw* won't and doesn't care.

13. Also, what is up with his "one issue" stance. ? According to him,
Bushes domestic agenda is horseshit, but as long as he has a firm grip on international terrorism that's okay then. How narrowminded can one be. > ? We are less safe now than we ever have been> the only thing I can think of is Isreal that he is most concerned about. Bunch of blather from a moran.

Sanity? questionable.
Anyone who supports the likes of Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, Rice and Bush cannot call themselves liberal. Sorry Ed, you're now a neo-conservative. Time to stop pretending.

21. Ed Is Too Stupid To Realise That Should The Neo-Cons Get Total Control
and managed to purge all the Muslims from the Middle East ...

They would then begin to go after the gays & blacks

and THEN... because they know nothing but divisiveness and can only rule by fear...

They would begin to after Jews...

Even the ones who are "Brother Neo-Cons"... Even the ones who funded them from the beginning.

Err sorry Ed...the reason Bush pays attention to you and tows the Likud line is because his Revelation crowd wants to see Jerusalem as the home of Jesus' second coming. You and the non-believer Jews will be cast into a Lake of Fire.

It ain't because they thought you were a good mayor.

I believe in combating international terrorism too - so what the hell does that have to do with our policy on Iraq?

I used to mildly like Ed Koch - he is starting to look a lot like Joe Lieberman to me.

24. And he supports Pataki
and just about any Repug why? Because of the great economic liberal policy the way they run the state into the ground? I am guessing he still holds a grudge against being deposed or shunted aside after, especially by the black mayor Dinkins. Koch wanted to be Pope of NYC, single, fixated, forever.

He is just one of several spiteful, disgruntled scions of the Empire State who has over and over again turned against his party and seems as much a "liberal" of convenience as any Repug who swindles the expectations of the electorate to stay in office. Dems like him are exactly the reason the locals are always infighting, disunited and humiliated, forced to grudgingly step aside for imports who have much less trouble getting elected.

He didn't like McCall's stand on the war? Is that the reason he turned on him? Of course, in the worst run legislature in the nation Pataki is doing such a fine job in the Triumvirate.

He's a liar, first of all. Then you can get less kind. Be our guest.

Back during the Monica mess, he said he believed Paula Jones and Juanita Broaddrick were telling the truth. In fact, he said he thought Clinton should be under house arrest.

35. Good riddance
Koch was a divisive, race-baiting mayor. I was living in New Jersey then and had to put up with his sorry act all the time. New York was a nasty place when he was running things. He capitalized on the stock market boom for a while and also successfully epitomized the New York tendency to argue, but the only reason anybody ever thought he was a worthwhile mayor was because given most of his recent predecessors, it was hard to look totally incompetent.

I'd put him on a much lower level than Joe Lieberman. Lieberman has more personal integrity and is capable of getting through 3 sentences without sneering at somebody. I don't often say I wish someone would leave the Democratic Party and join the Replonks, but Koch can take his corrupt and morally bankrupt set of buttocks all the way to Crawford.
