LONDON (Reuters) - Wal-Mart subsidiary Asda says it has overtaken Marks & Spencer as Britain's biggest clothing retailer after sales jumped in the last three months.

The company would not confirm the precise figure quoted in Sunday newspaper reports which showed Asda lifted its share of Britain's clothing and footwear market to 9.4 percent in the three months to July 25.

But it did say its market share was now greater than Marks & Spencer.

"I can confirm we are number one," an Asda spokeswoman said.

1. Gee, is WM going to do to the UK what they've done to the US?
How do you think the Brits will respond to that?

2. I'd rather shop in thrift stores
than give Wal-mart a friggin' dime of my money.

4. I'm with you
I refuse to shop at Walmart or Sam's.

They suck.

3. Think I've read that Princess Anne buys her underwear at M&S.
Can you picture her in a Wal-Mart? M&S quality is FAR above WM.

5. Don't shop at Walmart under any circumstances
They are gutting small communities, vastly lowering wages for workers in every country they work in, and they routinely undercut wholesalers. I repeat, do not purchase anything from Walmart.

6. Marks & Sparks
The only reason Asda are doing so well is that their stuff is so cheap, but in the end you gets what you pays for.

When it comes to St Michael or Asda, I'll take St Michael's boxer shorts anyday of the week.

7. It's been a long time, but when I was last in London (eek! 20 years ago!)
I sure loved shopping in Marks & Spencers!
