Anger as Bush bids to exploit Olympic games
(snip)

But it is the potential presidential visit to the games that will fuel a dispute between the election campaign of Mr Bush and his running mate, Dick Cheney, and the US Olympic Committee over an advert which links Iraq's and Afghanistan's participation in the games with the US administration's "war on terror".

(snip)

To the embarrassment of their media handlers in Athens, members of the Iraqi football team have reacted furiously to the news that their efforts are being used to aid Mr Bush's efforts to win a second term in the White House.

(snip)

Mr Bush, not hitherto known as a keen football fan, has made repeated references to the performances of the Iraqi football team in his campaign speeches.

After its unexpected 4-2 victory over Portugal, he told a crowd in Oregon that the fact the team was in Athens was fantastic, adding: "It wouldn't have been free if the United States hadn't acted."

1. If he shows up to their game,
they should simply quit playing in protest.

2. Ham-handed idiot
He's so arrogant he just assumes they'll throw flowers at him. And notice how he wasn't a football fan until the team becomes "winners."

Cheap jerk.

In other violence Sunday:

A suicide attacker detonated a car bomb alongside the convoy carrying a deputy provincial governor, Bassam al-Khadran, in the town of Khalis, north of Baghdad. The blast killed two people and injured 14 others, including al-Khadran, Iraqi officials said.
In Jur al-Nadaf, 12 miles south of Baghdad, attackers sprayed a police vehicle with machine-gun fire, killing two policemen before fleeing, said Col. Adnan Abdul-Rahman of the Interior Ministry.
In Mosul, 225 miles northwest of Baghdad, gunmen opened fire on a car, killing an Indonesian citizen and injuring a Filipino, hospital officials said. Two Iraqis, the car’s driver and a bodyguard, were also killed in the attack, Dr. Dhia Taha said.
In the southern city of Basra, an Iraqi intelligence officer kidnapped nearly a week ago and threatened with death if U.S. and Iraqi forces did not end the violence in Najaf was found dead, his body riddled with bullets, police said Sunday.

Isn't there too much a chance for booing?--alarming both the media whores and Chimpy's handlers who don't want his fragile ego thrown akilter.

6. He wouldn't dare go.
He couldn't take the chance of getting booed. Of course it's not his fault. We all know he is " such a likeable guy ". Haven't we been hearing that since 1998 ?

10. They are blind to that, though
They really do think that most people are with them and the protestors are a noisy few nutcases.

Inside Bush's bubble, they surely think that.

8. Typical Rovian political move. Brave President in D-A-N-G-E-R!
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 11:01 PM by DemoTex
Look at the primary antecedents:

1. The brave and ballsy carrier landing on the USS Abraham Lincoln in a Lockheed S-3 Viking Sub-Tracker/Shit-hauler (not a fighter jet as Rove pushed). But, the script was perfect: Strut and preen with balls in a vice. Do not release parachute harness crotch straps, like the real fighter pilots on the USS Abe Lincoln will do for mere comfort, in that it will accentuate your "package" for the dildonically-obsessed wifey and girlie voters (you may garner some of the close-to-be-log-cabin queers, impressed by your Presidential "package").

2. The remarkable, and hence unprecedented, trip to a war-torn capital (your waring, your tearing) at Thanksgiving (our celebration, not theirs) by an un-elected President (who started that illegal war) to serve a perfectly browned-and-garnished plastic stunt-turkey on the gullible press and a few clean-cut troops, under orders to smile and lick-chops.

3. That's just the start! Now the Greecian Formula Olympics. (Aside from Bu$h to Rove: 'Tell me again how much "Greecian Formula " contibuted to mah damn cause?').

12. Bush will not go to Athens now
The Iraqi players are now way too unpredictable. Bush could be walking straight into a political disaster.

15. I remember his Pappy, while Veep, snatching jessica from the well...
they had this rescue attempt to get jessica out of the well she had fallen in. Heroic firefighters struggling to rescue her...HUGE national media coverage. Then, just as they get her out of the well, George Bush Sr., steps from his limo, actually HOLDS the rescued kid for a barrage of photo op photos before handing her back to the family...

Does anyone else remember this? My blood went ballistic at the time. Then, right after than, we learned he was running for president.

tramping over people to grandstand seems to be a family trait.

25. *shrugs* I admit I may have the details wrong...
but I have this memory of the limo pullling up while they were still trying to get her out...and Bush and Babs being in the shot as the baby was taken to the ambulance. I'm almost sure I saw him holding the baby at some point in the transfer process.

However, If no one else remembers it that way, I'm going to have to chalk it up to Alzheimers, because a halfhearted attempt to verify this after your post came up empty on google.

16. I hope he goes
There's nothing I'd rather witness than this arrogant asswipe coward being booed by not only the entire country of Greece, but also by the 10 million "focus groups" members who stood and protested against his PNAC INVASION.

I also hope he visits Ground Zero during the NYC convention, giving the entire world another chance to see the Satanic, opportunistic, empty soul of the AWOL bastard.

21. Another Bush Scandel
Just like the Swift Boat scandel here is another stupid Bush scandel, with Bush-Cheney-GOP rep telling everyone they are running the bogus GOP Olympic ad for the rest of the month and to "kiss-off".

This mess has already been blow out to all the major papers around the world. Same old message, we are the U.S. and we will do what we want, when we want, and screw everyone if you don't like it!

24. So will the attempted assasination of Bush in Greece Succeed?
Say hello to President Cheney!

Well, for all practical purposes, he's President already.

He's probably pretty disappointed in the Chimp by now anyway. Might pay someone to do it, if he knows who he can frame it on.
