Taiwan Says China Ships Challenge U.S. Defense Line
TAIPEI (Reuters)

Taiwan Premier Yu Shyi-kun accused arch-foe China of sending surveillance ships into Taiwan and Japanese waters to prepare for a possible confrontation with the United States, newspapers said on Monday.

The comments by Yu, who was in New York over the weekend, come at a time of simmering tensions between China and Taiwan, with the Taiwan Strait seen by some security analysts as the most dangerous flashpoint in Asia.

"Communist Chinese forces are coming to the Pacific Ocean for a confrontation with the United States. This causes a threat to security in the Asia Pacific," the China Times quoted Yu as saying in New York on Saturday.

"For the sake of world peace, for the sake of peace and stability in the Asia Pacific, and for the sake of global military security, the Americans must stand behind Taiwan," Yu was quoted as telling a group of about 500 Taiwan people.

The United States acknowledges Beijing's 'one China' policy, which claims Taiwan as part of its territory, but Washington is the island's biggest arms supplier and has treaty obligations to defend Taipei against a Chinese attack. ..

1. Sorry, we're busy bombing religious buildings.
And surveillance ships don't count. The US made that point not long ago.

3. Taiwan should join China
and be done with it. It is not a separate country. It's a tiny island on the coast.

Most Taiwanese have big investments in China anyway, and there is no reason the world should go to war because it's Chiang Kai-Cheks old residence.

4. Yu Shyi-kun says China wants a war
"I'm calling on American people to support Taiwan."

Premier Yu Shyi-kun

China is secretly mapping underwater terrain in the Pacific in preparation for an eventual conflict with the US there, reports yesterday quoted Premier Yu Shyi-kun as saying.

Chinese surveillance ships sailed close to Japanese waters 14 times last year and seven times this year, and have also sailed "numerous times" just east of Taiwan, the state-funded Central News Agency quoted Yu as saying during a transit stop in New York on his return from Latin America.

"China's behavior has clearly violated the national interest of the US and its founding spirit," Yu said, according to Chinese-language newspaper. "I'm calling on American people to support Taiwan for the sake of world peace, safety and stability of the Asia-Pacific region and the world's military security."

5. That's hilarious!
"China's behavior has clearly violated the national interest of the US and its founding spirit"

When did it become a requirement for China to support anything about the US, much less the US's 'national interest'?

What planet is Yu living on?

6. China should just wait
until the US invades Iran. We'll be way to over extended at that point to do anything but shout obscenities at China.
