BBC News snip:
Power went off across Bahrain on Monday morning, leaving many people without air conditioning while temperatures were expected to climb above 50C. Electricity department officials said a technical fault caused the blackout.
Police are positioned at junctions as traffic lights cut out, but there was still gridlock throughout Manama.
Summer power cuts are a regular problem for Bahrain, as demand rises due to searing heat and high humidity, but a nationwide blackout is unusual.
Some residents - believing they had been cut off for non-payment of bills - reportedly came to pay in person at the main electricity company offices, but were sent away because staff were not able to operate their computers.
