Cleland tours state to counter ads attacking Kerry

Former U.S. Sen. Max Cleland defended Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's military service records in Vietnam as he visited a series of Wisconsin towns this weekend.

Cleland, along with a group of veterans, visited Waukesha and Green Bay Saturday, as part of the Tour of Honor. The tour made 10 Wisconsin stops in four days last week trying to counter ads by a group called Swift Boat Veterans for Truth that question Kerry's record of military service in the Vietnam War. ..

"If you're throwing dirt, you're losing ground," Cleland said in Green Bay, using a saying from his home state of Georgia. "And George Bush is losing ground, and he knows it." ..

"When enough is enough and lies are lies, you have to draw the line," he said. ..
