(Wyo Gov.) Freudenthal Makes Endorsement

>
LARAMIE, WY (2004-08-24)

A week after the primary, Ted Ladd is kicking off his general election campaign. Tuesday night he held a fundraising event. On hand to endorse the Democratic US House nominee will be Governor Dave Freudenthal.
Dave Freudenthal's participation in the Ladd campaign comes less then a month after the Governor expressed a reluctance to endorse Presidential Candidate John Kerry.
Freudenthal says he's comfortable endorsing Ladd while uncomfortable backing Kerry because he has a better feel for where Ladd stands on Wyoming issues.

2. Another political coward
I was excited about Freudenthal's election but if he can't endorse Kerry over Bush then I have no more use for him.

3. Well, as the saying goes
a Wyoming Democrat is more conservative than a New York Republican. It's kinda true. Freudenthal's administration is worlds better than his predecessor's, that toady Geringer, and it shows in a lot of ways (think about the massive amount of energy we export). If he wants a second term, he's got to play the game this way, sad but true.

4. too bad it's only the democrats who have to operate this way
I see very few GOP officeholders withholding endorsements of Bush but some like Miller and the Mayors of ST. Paul and Youngstown endorse Bush. Freudenthal's non-endorsement of Kerry is tanamount to an endorsement of Bush and while I understand how conservative Wyoming is I still think it stinks.

5. Agreed.
But what else could he do? At least he's endorsing Ladd, who does have a legit shot at unseating Cubin, who doesn't have all that much support among the state's republicans. Ladd's got a shot. We haven't had a Dem Rep since Tino Roncalio.

6. Best of luck, I understand the predicament.
Recently, I traveled across Wyoming--through Rock Springs, Rawlins, Casper and many little towns and mostly vast expanses of--nothing. But I saw GOP signs aplenty. Wyoming has a problem with "pro-abortion," "anti-gun" candidates. I see that we've yet to totally hit our stride in rural areas. If I were advising Freudenthal, I might advise a non-endorsement of Kerry as well, sadly.
