Jewish Voters Favor Kerry, as Do Arab-Americans, Polls Show
<“The work the Bush administration has done over the last three years to reach out to Jewish voters has been largely unsuccessful,” said pollster Anna Greenberg, who conducted the poll for the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC).

This could set up an ironic double win, because polls show Kerry leading among Arab-Americans as well, a switch from their overwhelming support for Bush four years ago.

Believing George W. Bush would follow his father’s Mideast polices, Arab-Americans gave Bush their support in 2000. But four years later, many are repelled by his decision to launch the Iraq war and his support for the USA Patriot Act, not to mention his pro-Israeli stance.

“The anger among Arab-Americans toward Bush is palpable,” pollster John Zogby said recently after conducting a poll in Dearborn, Michigan, home to one of the largest Arab-American communities in the United States.

“Bush “lied and made commitments and promises that never came true and Republican Arab-Americans are completely disillusioned with the Bush campaign,” Ali Dagher, an Arab-American lawyer from Dearborn, Michigan, told journalists during the Democratic Convention last month.>

One thing that almost every minority group can agree on: Anybody but Bush.

15. AMEN and AMEN!
At least any *thinking* person in a minority group. Not the card-carrying "Chickens for Colonel Sanders" type.

4. big tent, big tent
very nice. If we get enough of those Arab voters in Michigan, we could turn Michigan from a swing state leaning democratic to a solid democratic state.

13. It's not that astonishing...
Don't Jewish voters here tend to be more democractic. They're more liberal in general. Arab voters are generally more conservative and tend to vote more republican.

So really all Bush has done has made arab americans fear for their freedom and safety. I know for me, arab american, I've never before felt in this country like I might be rounded up simply because of where my father was born. Sure there were times that people made me feel like an outsider, but I've always loved this country. Since 9/11 and the way Bush has handled things, Patriot Act, Gitmo, etc...I've actually had nightmares that I'd be ripped away from my family and put in a prison without a lawyer or hearing, just because of my name essentially.

How many Arab Americans have had those kinds of nightmares. How many of them are likely to vote for Bush?

Astonishing? No. Try logical.

9. Many Arab-Americans voted for Bush in 2000
because the Gore-Lieberman ticket was perceived as too pro-Israel, among other reasons. Bush then proved that he doesn't mind trampling the rights of Arab-Americans, supporting the viciously brutal and racist apartheid policies of Ariel Sharon, imposing sanctions on Syria, and waging a despicable war of aggression against a sovereign Arab country. Arab-Americans have little choice (unless they vote for Nader) except to vote for Kerry/Edwards despite their pro-war and very pro-Israel records. Arab-Americans will surely be disappointed no matter who is elected in November because both parties are virulently Zionist, pro-Israel, and hostile to the interests of most Arab-Americans. As usual, it's a matter of choosing the lesser of two evils.

14. Nader is Arab American
Something you don't really hear much about. It's kinda surprising, but how much do you want to bet that if Nader was stealing votes from Bush like Perot did his dad that there would be some 'independent' group running ads about Nader's connections to the Middle East.

Still Arab Americans are on the conservative side. I'm not just talking about fundies either. I'm talking about businessmen, doctors, lawyers etc. Beats me why, but they tend to be conservative in the economic sense. Not necessarily the social sense. I think the movemnet of the republican party towards forcing this country into some sort of christian government, along with the government's illegal treatment of arab americans, along with the whole invasion of iraq and killing thousands of innocent people....three times the number killed on 9/11...well that tends to make people vote against you, or simply not vote.

12. Okay, God must be involved in this.
I mean, really! What is this?

I never really bought the notion that Shrub was going to seduce a large percentage of the Jewish voters, but I had no idea where the Arab-American vote would line up.

Hang on tight, folks. This could get interesting.
