Poll Shows Kerry With 10-Point Lead Over Bush In NJ
http://www.international.nasdaq.com/asp/gmWorldNews.asp&headl">WASHINGTON (AP)

John Kerry leads President Bush by 10 points in a poll of New Jersey voters, with a small number of voters saying that Governor James McGreevey's decision to resign has made them less likely to vote for the Massachusetts senator.

Kerry leads Bush 49% to 39%, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday. Kerry's support was little changed from an Aug. 4 Quinnipiac poll, in which he led Bush 49% to 36%. The poll has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Of the 887 registered voters polled from Aug. 19-23, 7% said they would be less likely to vote for Kerry because of McGreevey's Aug. 12 announcement that he was gay, had an extramarital affair with another man and would resign on Nov. 15. However, 90% said the resignation would not make a difference.

"The turmoil in New Jersey, including the resignation of Governor McGreevey, has had no impact on Sen. Kerry's support in the state. The Democratic contender still enjoys a double-digit lead, as would be expected in a traditionally Democratic state such as New Jersey," said Clay F. Richards, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

Richards added that the controversy over Kerry's Vietnam record and his subsequent protest of the war has had no effect in New Jersey, most likely because ads challenging his service were not aired in the state. ..

1. It's only in states with poor education systems that are for Bush.

2. How do you explain California? . . .
Solidly in the Kerry camp, almost dead last in all categories for education.

3. Educated people move to California after getting an education?
California is one of the economic and cultural centers of the world.

4. The California educational system is that bad? I didn't know that.
I always thought that they were a state that overall did pretty well. Is college tuition at state universities still free to all state residents? I thought that was a particularly progressive policy.

I thought Florida and Mississippi had the worst schools.

The most reliable indicator of whether a state votes Republican is the degree to which it is subsidized by the taxes collected from states that vote Democratic. Just about all states that vote Republican receive much greater sums from the Federal government in various forms than their population pays in Federal taxes, while the population of most all states that vote Democratic pay much more in Federal taxes than their states receive from the Federal government. The fact is that Republicans, for all their prattle about self-reliance and independence, are nothing but a crew of piglets sucking off the government teat, and would be destitute without the taxes paid by hard-working, self-reliant Democrats. They are the ultimate "welfare queens" of our society....
