Judge Tells Protestors No, They Can't Rally in Central Park
By Sandra Bookman

(Foley Square-WABC, August 25, 2004) — A judge has denied a protest group's plea to rally in Central Park during the Republican convention. Several groups tried to fight the city's decision to deny them a permit, one of which had suggested as many 250,000 protestors might gather there. But will ruling just down from a judge late Wednesday afternoon stop them?

The city has stood by its demands that a massive anti-war march on Sunday end on a stretch of the West Side Highway. The city says that 250,000 demonstrators would trample the grass.

This morning, demonstrators who rallied outside the courthouse had a message of defiance that suggested a court ruling won't be enough to stop them.

Tonya Mayo, Protest Organizer: "We are here to say that no matter what the ruling is, we will see you in Central Park!"

3. They should use later 'official' crowd size estimates for the permit.
It's funny how the media and officialdom lowball the estimates in the news and highball 'em (or accept the truth) when issuing permits. :grr: :grr: :grr:

6. Is this Judge (Silbermann) in New York related
to Judge Silberman of D.C. fame -- the right wing radical nut case that is now sitting on the WMD Commission that is suppose to report next year. Can't tell from what little research I did if they are or not - names show up spelled incorrectly in a couple of places.
