Judge rules that VA law voids issue of custody for gays

WINCHESTER - A Frederick County judge ruled yesterday that Virginia law voids the claims of a Vermont woman seeking parental rights for a toddler born into a lesbian civil union.

The ruling by Circuit Judge John R. Prosser came after a court hearing. It recognized as the sole parent the girl's biological mother, Frederick County resident Lisa Miller-Jenkins. Prosser deemed the Vermont woman, Janet Miller-Jenkins, no more than a friend.

Prosser based his decision on the state's Affirmation of Marriage Act, a law that took effect in July barring the state from recognizing same-sex civil unions.




Is this in the best interest of the child, to deny visitation from one parent? Virginia is for lovers, my ass.
