W wants to bond with Bravest (Watch Convention at Firehouse)
http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/225965p-194099c.html

President Bush wants to watch the Republican convention from a New York City firehouse and "bond" with the city's Bravest, officials said yesterday.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is also scouting out firehouses so he can watch it with the heroes of 9/11.

"Both Bush and Schwarzenegger want to bond with city firefighters," said one city official who asked not to be named.

FDNY spokesman Frank Gribbon said, "The President of the United States is welcome in any fire facility in the city."

The President intends to watch Wednesday night when Vice President Cheney addresses his party. Bush takes the stage on Thursday night.

2. There you have it folks. The reason for picking NYC.
They are showing themselves for who they are. The only reason why those dirty repugs would choose NYC for their evil little party. To exploit 9/11. Right there, clear as day.

4. What a nice treatment of Bush
Mentions some emails of support for Bush (I get the impression they're the exception based on the way it's portrayed), but only the most oblique reference to the way he's treated the NYFD... sickening.

Love that they called Arnie the 'Govinator'.

6. Will they finally give the firehouse a special cleaning now!??
So that the little prince won't breathe in any of that EPA-approved toxic dust?

Guess they will clean out the firefighters against *, too.

18. They will have to find the one dozen
firefighters in the entire city who will sign loyalty oaths and bus them crosstown to the firehouse, while the local firemen will be "loaned out" to other nearby firehouses.

30. The union should have something to say about this.
Wouldn't it be cool if the union were to call a strike of sorts? Not a real strike (I don't even think this is allowed), but a boycott of any event not related to fighting fires while the RNC was in town. Hold an emergency meeting to vote on it, then when it passes by a 3:1 margin, hold a big, loud news conference to announce it.

Anybody got pull with the unions down there in NYC?

Edited on Thu Aug-26-04 10:48 AM by Beetwasher
I doubt this will happen. I don't think you will find many firefighters, much less a whole firehouse that support the twerp in NYC. Not if the FF's I've spoken to are any indication. They would have to keep some FF's out of their own house in order to have Bush come in.

Also, it's FUCKING STUPID and SELFISH and DANGEROUS. We don't need our first responders tied up for a Bush photo op. What if they're needed?

16. that FDNY spokesman is a craven coward
He should have said: "George W. Bush is not welcome in any firehouse in New York City because he still has not delivered the funds he promised us three years ago to help prepare NYC for further terrorist attacks."

the firehouse next to my apartment building! I walk my dog past there everyday. His peeing on the leg of a secret service agent would be downright precious.

Well, that, and my BLASTING Air America broadcasts or Steve Earle out my window.

25. I would like to see one of the firefighters ask
Firefighter: "Sir, why haven't you caught the man that killed my firefighting brothers?"

Bush: "We captured Saddam, thats close enough"

Whats odd about the whole thing is the unions for the Police and Firefighters are for Kerry, not Bush..Maybe someone forgot to tell him.

29. didn't their national association decide to boycott W's photo-ops?
This was from 2002 ...

http://emperors-clothes.com/archive/freiss.htm

"The International Association of Fire Fighters voted unanimously on Wednesday to boycott a national tribute to firefighters who died on Sept. 11, in an angry response to U.S. President George Bush's rejection of a bill that included $340 million to fund fire departments."

(snip)

"Mohler made the boycott motion before about 2,000 union leaders convening in Las Vegas for the IAFF's first national conference since Sept. 11.

"The president has merely been using firefighters and their families for one big photo opportunity," Mohler said. "We will work actively to not grant him another photo op with us." "

If any of the firefighters read Bush's blog and attached article, I doubt that they would be too pleased to see him in their house.

33. While shrub will take advantage of the photo ops,
I believe that he is afraid and feel as if he will be safer there. Or he is feeling a bit egotistical, and thinking..."Oh, so you hate me, we'll see how much you hate me. Hate me to my face (smirk)" Maybe get himself a few votes here and there also.
