Delegates, Beware - Cabbies Against Bush
By Sarah Childress Newsweek

Delegates to the Republican National Convention can expect to run into protesters around town, but some may also get an earful of anti-Bush sentiment while they're driving through the city. Cabbies Against Bush, a tiny coalition of about 10 New York City cab drivers, have vowed to "Shine a light on Bush" and his policies, by driving with their headlights on during the day. They're a miniscule percentage of the more than 12,000 licensed cabs in the city, but the group hopes to get other cabbies to come on board by spreading the word by radio and fliers. In a more provocative guesture, they're also offering coupons for free cab rides to Kennedy or Newark airports (the only two local airports with flights to Baghdad) for any Republican willing to fight in Iraq— including Fox News' Bill O'Reilly. NEWSWEEK's Sarah Childress called up one of the group's founders, Queens cabbie John McDonagh.

2. I think they have a good idea
Just think of the captive audience these cabbies could have! I'd love to have O'Liely get into one of these cabs and get offered that free ride!

He is a very funny guy. :D

He apparently also does a weekly radio show on WBAI called Radio Free Eireann.

5. Why would a repuker get in a cab, then,
that has its headlights on? With only 10, I'm surprised that this even constitutes a newsworthy story.

10. It's as newsworthy as
10 or 15 Freepers showing up to stage a counter protest against 500,000 anti war protesters, but that gets print too. Go figure...

11. Do lots of cabs have the headlights wired to "on" permanently?
Lots of delivery vehicles have headlights wired "on" as a safety measure. If lots of cabs have headlights on all the time, it might make it hard for repubicans to get around...
