Bush to ask for $2B in aid for Charley
$2 billion for charley

"McClellan said the request for an additional $2 billion for assistance and loans for hurricane victims will be presented to Congress when it reconvenes Sept. 7. The federal government previously allocated $1 billion for hurricane relief in Florida."

dammit rove, this is bribery pure and simple!

1. Well, all Kerry has to do is vote for it...
...and propose another bill for $2 billion more.

2. If It Helps Someone Whose Home Was Destroyed

espec. if that person has no (or not enough) insurance, it is a good thing.

I am glad Bush is releasing money for the state because I think it is what the government should do. But it smacks of political opportunism because most Republicans like to promote this "rugged individualism" crap. Wonder how many Supply Siders in Southwest Florida are angry at paying $10 for a bag of ice and want to call our Attorney General to complain about price gouging. Wonder how many of them applied for FEMA. No, that is mean but I'm tired of people saying it isn't government's job to help until they are the ones needing assistance.

I am in Central Florida, fortunate enough that my house is very slightly damaged (missing shingles, must replace roof), but we are out a few thousand due to our hurricane deductible and the tree removal which isn't covered. We have the savings, so I'm not expecting the government to come though for us, but there are lots of people far worse off. Hopefully they'll get the help they need and see through this transparent ploy. Hopefully someone will call Dubya on his hypocrisy.

Everytime I hear them say government social programs etc aren't in the Constitution, I wish they'd read the Preamble. I would rather my government "Promote the general Welfare" by helping rebuild homes in Punta Gorda than to to "Provide for the common defence" by desroying homes in Najaf.

4. Aren't these ares heavily Republican

that have been hit?

Wonder if something bad hit San Francisco would Chimpy be on the make?

I thought the Repubs were the party of small government...I mean, shouldn't those people pull themselves up by their boot-straps and all? I am tired of this big tax and spend, out of control redistribution of wealth in place. Bush is a leftist...Bastard...bad things happen in life...big government can't be there everytime something bad happens.

/sarcasm
