Census: 170,000 Ohio Jobs Lost (since 2000)
Ohio has seen 170,000 people lose their jobs since April 2000, according to numbers released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau. That translates to an unemployment rate that rose from 5 percent to 7.9 percent at the end of 2003, the numbers show.

It shows that the city of Cincinnati has an unemployment rate of 10.9 percent, with nearly 16,000 people in the city looking for work. Some 12,000 families lived below the poverty line in the city.

The numbers for all of Hamilton County were significantly better. Just 6.9 percent of the county's residents were unemployed, a total of 28,000 people. Just under 18,000 families lived below the poverty line.

5. exactly
there are a lot of the poll numbers that do not make sense. I'm starting to wonder if these polls aren't being rigged somehow...

6. You guys honestly have no idea just how troubled this state really is.
There's a genuine bankruptcy of ideas, vision and imagination at the state level right now. Governor Taft is the Buckeye equivalent of Dubya, sans Karl Rove and Dick Cheney to misguide and misdirect his actions. Taft would seem more content to covering his ears and burying his head in the sand than even attempting to initiate any kind of bold idea or initiative that might actually lift the state out of our devastating decline as a result of job losses, skyrocketing tuition costs and economic ruin.

We could certainly use real leadership right now, not entirely unlike what Governor Howard Dean provided for Vermont.

7. Bush's margin of victory in Ohio in 2000: 166,000. Coincidence?
And that was only after Al Gore dropped out and conceded the state in September 2000.

As our fearless leader would say: "Fool me once, shame . . . shame on . . . you, err...err...Fool me...err...err...can't get fooled again!"

10. you sound like that guy from Gulliver's Travels...
"It'll never work."
Pshaw to naysayers...
The polls lie.
Dem_strategist was absolutely right when he said the polls don't matter (except maybe to strategists--but they read them and manipulate the numbers differently).

There are real people out there who are really hurting under the lash of Bush's ineptitude. And they are going to the polls in November en masse to vote their wallets and pocketbooks--some of us will also be voting our conscience.

All the crap and the polls popping up in the media are just that--crap. The voters are going to send a strong message in November that they're mad as hell and are not going to take it anymore! You just watch.

In the meantime, what the hell have you done to get voters registered or to help educate people on the issues? If your answer is "nothing," then, IMHO, you abdicate your right to sit here on a message board whining and moaning "It'll never work."

Please do not take my rant personally. It's not directed at just you. I've been reading this board a lot lately, and I am thoroughly sick of you Doubting Thomases and naysayers that can't see what's really going on. I challenge you to get off your asses and do your part to make sure that what you are scared will happen doesn't.

Peace,
AL
